Vapor Trail Tech from Ebay

The only mods I guess, would be how the unit is mounted in your "cockpit" "dash" area, and how it's mounted to your caliper and rotor. There are two ways to mount the magnet to your rotor. One is with a clip, and the other is by epoxying (jb weld) it in your rotor. 98-99 models, I think you'll have to glue it in.
When you mount the pickup to your caliper, make sure it's not too close to the rotor so you don't get a false reading and so debry isn't caught between the two. Although close enough that you do get a reading.
The bracket the computer goes in acts in two functions. One is the pod the computer goes into. (can be removed for cleaning bike or whatever) The other is for protection.
Let me tell you, I've had a lot of computers on a several bikes and I wouldn't have a computer without the bracket/case/protector, whatever you want to call it. It's a must.
Plus it looks cool. THINK OF IT AS AN INSURANCE POLICY ON YOUR COMPUTER. You can purchase through BOSS. Another UHE member. His name on UHE is BOSS.

Wittmann,
Just like gilgamesh I put a trail tech vapor on a 99 fe400. i was told to get one that fits a honda cr, but after talking to a rep at trail tech. he advised me to get the one that was for a yamaha tt. it fit great, no major mods needed. the speed sensor i have tie wrapped to the inside of the fork instead of mounting to the caliper. works great!!!! the only thing you will need to tell them when ordering is to include the water temp sensor as opposed to the temp sensor that goes around the spark plug, as the tt models are air cooled. Make sure you mount the temp sensor on the return hose from the motor to the radiator as thats where your temp is going be the highest. i just had to return the air sensor, for a water sensor at no extra charge. I hard wired mine to my battery, but as was posted before, it should work off a regulator. I would also recommend getting the dashboard for it. I mounted mine under the bars between the bar and number plate. tomorrow is xmas and am hoping to get a digital camera.....LOL. I turn up sonet systems..and I have 4 computers online in my house and i don't have a digital cam.....go figure. If i do i will take some pics of my install. I did not buy it off ebay, as I could not get an answer to my questions from whoever was selling the item on ebay. call trailtech themselves when you order, or from a local dealer. it might be a couple dollars more, but your dealing with the company themselves instead of a 3rd party seller, that will never return your emails. i've compared mine to a factory unit on a ktm and its pretty close on the speed. the rpm graph seems to respond a little slow, but i may have too many wraps around the plug wire, it calls for 4 or 5 wraps and I think i made 9, gonna try taking a wrap or two off and see if that doesn't help.

Regarding the sensor, I found it much easier and cleaner to leave the stock set-up in place (as long as you have an FE or FS) and cut and splice the stock wire to the plug in the kit and then just plug that into the computer. Works perfectly, and no big and ugly pick-up sensor on the caliper.

Regarding the mount, I removed completely the stock computer mount and fabricated a mount out of a piece of 1/8" aluminum. Very stout and works like a charm.

During the last trip before I crashed & chunked my leg the mechanical speedo on the '98 packed it in. Before I busted the bike the speedo needle had broken off and the stub was going round and round like a madman.

I picked up a brand-new-still-in-box Acewell 3700H computer - actually an OEM for an Australian model Honda CRF450 - complete with the dashboard surround module. The normal Acewell module has spaces for 8 dashboard indicator lights, but the CRF version only has left & right turn signals and high beam fitted. It looked a tiny bit more rugged than the Trail Tech Vapor, but is unfortunately quite a bit higher and I don't think will fit too well behind the 'berg headlight mask. I also found out later that while the 3700H has a tacho, it doesn't have a water temp display - you have to got to the next model Acewell to get that. Electrically the Acewell computers are brilliant - you can run them staight off any voltage AC or DC without problems! They must be fairly OK - I have since seen one off an XR for sale with nearly 80,000 km on it.

I then got a Trail Tech Vapor computer. Instead of the aluminium billet mount I got the genuine Trail Tech dashboard and mount that has four dash indicator lights. It clips on over the top of the computer and gives reasonable protection all round, though not as much as the billet one. Since I will use my bike mostly on the road the indicator lights should be good for separate L&R turn signals, head lights on and high beam. If I get it fitted over the Chrissy break I'll post some photos.

Also for any Aussies, sorry to the local dealers, but it was HALF THE FRICCIN' PRICE to buy a Vapor fom the US, compared to what it was to buy it in Australia. At the time the Vapor on its own was AU$220 from here. The one I got from a US dealer, including postage was only AU$160, landed on my desk at work INCLUDING the $50 dashboard!! And it only took a week & arf to get here!

What would be the best place to get this in Europe via e-shop? I don't know if here in Hungary is an importer for it?
