Vapor RPM readings

Hello fellow Berg-lers.
I'm hoping one of the Berg Gurus here can help me, I've searched using every term I can think of with no luck.
I have just fitted a Vapor to my 08 FS650 and I'm seeing a peak RPM figure (using the Max Recall screen) of over 15,000rpm with normal aggressive riding but NO missed gears. The tacho is reading 1850rpm at idle and seems right whilst cruising along at about 4500rpm. The tacho leads are attached to the coil power and the coil earth. The Vapor is set to the default 1ppr they recommend for 4 strokes. This seems right at lower rpm. Does anyone know if the Berg ignition switches to 2ppr at higher rpms? I am guessing this is whats happening, but I don't know at what revs this happens..... With the Vapor I can enter the rpm that the switch from 1ppr to 2ppr occurs at so I get an accurate reading. Am I thinking on the right track here or not? I've asked my dealer (Valley Force) but they don't know and asked me to tell them if I find out.....
Other than this I'm very happy with the Vapor and highly recommend it.
Thanks guys,

Matt.

To my knowlege your Berg always does 2 ppr. Doesn't 925 rpm sound like a good idle speed ?

Matt, my old vapor picks up the revs from a wire coiled around the HT lead and this has given no problems, if this is an option maybe you could try this just to check your Vapour is ok.

Really? I thought the factory recommended an idle speed of 1800rpm so that is about where it would come set, I am used to 4 cylinder bikes so I don't trust my ear with the Berg..... Now I'm really confused.

The readings I'm getting seem stable so I think my connections are good, and I had thought wiring to the coil was the better option. I'll try this though if all else fails. Cheers.

On a single cylinder dirt bike? No.

Std. idle on my Hussy is 1600 RPM. On my Ducky it is 1200 RPM. I set the idle down on my Hussy to about 1100 or 1200 RPM - and that is barely enough for it to idle right, but I like it there because the Rekluse is set to engage just above that, and therefore it stays engaged on downhills.

The Trailtech, when connected directly to the coil requires an inline resistor or RPM reading will be erratic and spike as you are seeing. I forget the specs for the resistor, but call/email Trailtech and they can fill you in.

Thanks Dial911, I'll send them off an email and see what they say.

Gday BoneGraft
How did you get on with your tacho problem ? what was the solution ?

thanks and cheers

It seemed to have resolved itself mate. I did a reset as per the Vapor manual and it seemed to behave itself. Been spot on for 2 years now with a peak recorded rpm of 7500-8000rpm with agressive riding. Buggered if I know.....

Cheers,

Matt.
