Hello

KTM is selling a valve spring kit for their ATV 450/525 engines with part# 83036028044. These engines use steel valves. It is a straight fit to a Hba cylinder head, only like my 2002 engine you have to clear some extra space in the rocker arm cover for the springs. The kit includes base washers, inner & outer springs and top washers.
The outer spring length is 40,7 mm uncompressed and installed 36,7 mm. Length from the top of the valve till the base washer is 44,6 mm (conical 44,1 mm) and the length of a set is 43,6 mm (conical 42,8 mm). The conical spring I measured is my own used one. Color code of the springs is light blue and purple (no idea).
With these longer springs max valve lift is less restricted as with the shorter springs and the springs are not compressed too much. I'm in the middle of a rebuild and plan to use them.

Best regards,
Stephan

hi steve

you'll blow your engine up if you use those numbers. an atv isn't going to rev like your husaberg is another reason.

and the springs you are on about are purple. the XC springs are purple and white. but never heard of light blue and purple.

regards

Taffy

I would have to disagree with you on that one Taff, those KTM ATV's are mental and rev like fook!!!

ok, you may well be right given that i don't know one end of a farmer's ATV from a racer even if i saw them! however, until someone confirmed to me what they are in one head, the weight of the valve and also the stroke of the engine.......i wouldn't be rattling the rev limiter on my bike!

it's not hard to get it right but it has to be right.

My Two year old son can tell me the difference between those four-wheelers and he can hardly speak  What a motor guy you must be, am getting scared

The quad use a RF4 engine with a 590 cam like 90% off KTM bike engines. Figure out your self what I think off the dual-springs?? Well you don't need it any longer my son told me, And it shouldn't be a problem to use them :D He`s as smart as his father :)

Regards

RE: Re: valve spring kit

ktm 400 and 520 run "01" and "55" profiles respectively and how come they use dual springs even they have steel valves?don't 01 and 55 have concave flanks?

So Stephan
Did you fit these valve springs and have good luck? shure seem cheaper than the regular KTM springs. I wonder if they are the same but have a different number since its a set.

Haven't you tried it yet?
I am going to buy dual spring kit from KTM and I will be glad to hear that this kit works flawlessly. If it does not then I may buy PN#59036028244.This is for 400 520 525 engine.400 runs 01, 520/525 runs 55 camshaft profile. This dual spring kit only costs $15 more than yours. In other words $60 and $75 for sets.Immediate response please :)

RE: Re: valve spring kit

the springs stephan talked about are used on 2008 525xc atv and also bike.As far as I know this spring kits are never used on R versions such as EXC-R.I guess choice may be something to do with the revs. I guess I am going to buy racing versions with PN#59036028244.Is this racing spring kit harder or softer?Any opinion? There is also PN#59036028344 which is also racing spring set(4X) $10 cheaper but maybe it lacks washers I am not sure it is a complete kit with washers.

RE: Re: valve spring kit

the 59036028244 is no longer available. i asked last week.

Taffy

When I checked the KTM parts, it looks like that also the other valve spring kit, part #59036028344, isn't available anymore??? The ATV engines are basically the same as the XC/EXC and 525 SX engines, a reverse gear has been added. They use the same valves and cam shaft. The load on these engines when raced is very high. Some KTM owners I talked with had replaced their conical springs with this kit.
I installed these springs to find out how they fit and they feel a little softer as to be expected (compared with the conical springs). I'm planning to try them but for now I'm waiting for my cylinder head to be back from porting (and that white sloppy stuff that's still everywhere here for some months to melt :coldcold: ).

Best regards,
Stephan

My question is do these spring kit work on FE400E as well?shorter stroke thus maybe higher rev..KTM 400 engines uses not ATV springs but 59036028244 but also they are stroker than 400 husa.I think there is no need to be confused by these little things.there should be more than I can imagine and the springs should be tolerant to little differences.I am also upgrading to convex race cam. I and other curious minds should be patient for the results:p

Sorry to disturb you guys in the middle of your "trial and error" development, but is there no spring force measurement stand close by?

I will measure the force when I install the spings and will compare the installed force of KTMs with that of husa at a height you guys mention for KTM dual springs.Just gathering information before I buy the springs and also to make decision on springs. I wonder if I can use the stock '02 FE400E cam with double spring kit.KTM 400 uses double spring kit together with its '01' cam.Are husa '01' cam and KTM '01' cam profiles the same?

Hi,

I found out that 59036028344 replaces conical springs and also updated to 83036028044 which is used on 00-02 KTM 400-520 and now ATV engines.I am sure they can be used instead of conicals because they replaces conicals according to manuals and upgrade histories.but there is also part#83036028144 which replaces 59036028244 used for '02-going on KTM bikes.do anyone knows what the difference is between these two double spring kits?83036028044 is almost half the price of 83036028144.BTW, all of the parts I mentioned above are used with steel valves.

Hi.

We've been riding for 3 times now with these double valve springs and I haven't been exactly careful. I forgot the whole thing after the front wheel was on the track. But they held, no problems yet. The idea was to start riding a little faster and faster and listening...... This way you can also test new things
But if someone is able to measure these springs it would be good to have this alternative kit confirmed in a technically more correct way.

Best regards,

Stephan

I ordered 83036028044.I'll measure the spring pressures and install it and then report the results here.

stephan,
were you able to notice any reduction in valvetrain noise?
