I just ran out to my shop and checked the feeler gauge I bent to set the valves on the '96 FE510 I had years ago - .004"/.102mm which was the figure listed in the '96 owner's manual and also in the '98 shop manual which I used to have.

I think I checked the valve clearance about every 20 hours or so as that is the interval listed in the shop manual. What you should do is to go to http://www.husaberg.com/Downloads.33.8.html and download the owner's manuals for '89-'96, '97, and '99 and also the parts manual for '89-'96. The early owner's manual does not give any information on valve adjustment but the later ones do. The motors stayed mostly the same through '98 and the '99-'00 models got the reversed ignition but otherwise were pretty much the same and I think that '97 was the first year they had an oil filter in addition to the screen.

For starting prceedure, what I did with mine (and still do when kick starting) is use the ks lever to get the piston up un the compression stroke, pull in the cl lever and get the piston just past tdc, let the ks lever reurn to the top and give the motor a solid kick. Your '95 501 should have the same carb (38mm flat slide) as my '96 had and what I ended up with was a 35 pilot jet with the air screw 2-3/4 - 3 turns out. I never changed the main jet or the needle (K35) or clip position. I did end up removing 1mm from the bottom of the slide to reduce the cutaway (I had to raise the needle 1 notch to compensate) which smoothed out the pilot to needle transition. With evrything set correctly my '96 FE501 was very easy to start, usually 2 kicks cold and 1 hot. With the semi-auto decompression cable properly adjusted and lubed the bike should kick over very easy for the first part of the kick stroke. In fact I've head of a Husaberg mechanic (Fletcher) starting then with his hand (I never had the guts to try!).

I hate to keep bugging you,but this I my firstt husa,I hink I am or was intemidated becouse it is so high ech,I have owned and worked many tt 500 and love the old thumpers, but and way my ? is wha is the proper settings for hand and auto decompresion lever,I set hem bith with a slight amount of play,I can see when they start to push on the valve train,I adjusted the hand till it was just ouching ,then backed i off 1/2 a turn and locked i down.iy look good to me and there should be enough play to be good a operaitng temp.the auto is ajusted the same,I have not dotnloaded man.yet as I do not have ink for my printer{fndtng the right ink cryrage for tha is about as easy as seting he valves on my husa blindfolded],but if I am bugging you I understand and will wait till I get he manual,I also think the return sprng on the decompression arm on he head is week or on backwards,I wll need to see a picture to et that on right, the engine was suppost to have been rebuilt,I hope no by he same guy who ajusted he valves or the cables ,scares me,but the good i the the valves and decomp was ajusted so tight that you could not start the bike , I had to drag it behind my jeep and only did that 2wice,and only ran around tha back yard, the second time I started it I was thinking is was he valves and paid closer atention and sure enough I had a liyylt poping on the exaust side, but no back ftring out the carb.I hope there is no damage from running it like that,
. anyway thanks again for your help,I would buy you a beer if could

The owner's manual will give you the specs on the semi-auto decompression cable adjustment and a picture. The proper amount of play in the decompressiom arm on the head is 2mm +/-1mm when the piston is at tdc on the compression stroke. The hand operated lever should have minimal cable slack so that when actuated will allow you to easily kick the motor over.
