valve guide problem

Took out the valves on my 2002 650 Husa.

The exhaust valves came out no problem at all, but the inlet valves I needed to gently tap out with a hammer, I couldn't pull them out by hand.
When I try to put the inlet valves back in the guides, they wont go in, they are a fraction bigger.

Is this an indication of a problem with the valve guides? Or should I just ream the guides an put the valves back in?

Another question in case i have to change out the guides, how do you get the guides out? Tap them out? Or heat the head and press them out?

Thanks, Christof.

you need to get the swollen part of the valve down. you should know which part was swollen from when you tried to get them out. was it the collet groove or near the end, the 'tip' of the vakve.

don't hone the guide - look at the valve. take it to an engineer or if you are careful you can just file away the 'burr' by rolling the valve stem in a 'V' like a slightly open vice jaw.

guides - hammer them out and then press new ones in by an engineer. the seats must then be cut again by a motor engineer so that the valve sits properly. so in the end - let the engineer get them out and put the new one's in.

The valve slid out without problem until the collet groove reached the guide, then I had to slightly tap it to get it out. I'll try to very gently file the end of the valves and see if there is an improvement.

Thanks you for the tip, Christof.

get a baby file in the collet groove at 45 degrees and just 'nick' the lip off, gently test it the WRONG way up into the top of the guide from above. again, an engineer could 'kiss' them in a lathe for a better job....

If guides are worn, it might be a good idea to fit K-line inserts. I've had great expereince with these on different heads in the later years,
