I have a 08 550fe that I just did a full rebuild on (well full breakdown and only replaced piston and cam chain because everything else seemed to be in good shape). After reassembling and getting the bike running it was very hard to try and kick after about 2 15 minute riding sessions. To my horror some metal shavings were visible in the oil sight. Before tearing the whole engine out i took the clutch cover off to inspect and found no broken teeth or anything that would console where the shavings were coming from other than the cam chain looking as though the outside rivets have possibly been rubbing in the valve cover. I went to remove the valve cover and the cam chain side is very tight. Reading online that the rocker shafts can get lodged into the gear i removed the intake side and got the exhaust side out a few mm to eliminate that being the issue. After butchering the seating surface in multiple locations Im at wits end with how to get this thing off....
Any insight would be greatly appreciated!
