Valve cover leaking oil?

I just picked up an 2001 FX470. This thing is a monster! 8O It's my first 4-stroke. I've had 2-strokes for a long time. I just got back from the Desert 100 in Odessa. There was a whole ton of dust that stuck to the cylinder head, due to oil seeping out from the valve cover? Is there a gasket that I need to replace? how much of a chore am I in for? Thanx bros!

There is no seal for the valve cover, a sealant is used when the cover is put on.
The valve adjustment covers, the little ones on top of the valve cover, do have seals, if you tighten the screws to much the adjuster covers bend and start to leak.
Tighten relatively lightly. Cover the adjuster cover seals with aluminium paste, it works like a release agent and your seals will last almost forever without leaks, no matter how many times you remove the adjuster covers.
