Valve adjustment after 20 hours?

Hey all,

I checked my valves last week and the intake were in spec, but both my exhaust valves were pretty tight, either right at the limit or just a bit past. Is this type of adjustment normal for such a low hour bike? Should I make sure to adjust it right away?

On the 450/570 the manual says check at 3hrs then every 15. Some on here say they go many more hours without adjustment. If the clearances were a little on the large side I'd say leave them. As they're on the tight side I'd say adjust them without delay. Too tight clearances = burnt valves.

+ 2 ...!

Every bike is different. Some need no valve adjustment for a while, some a little, some more.

Remember, they were all new parts ... and new parts need bedding in.
But once you adjust them good the first time -- they really hold well from there on out.

Cheers! E-Ticket

Will the shim kit from any rfs engine work? My buddy has a kit from his 2010 ktm 400.

Yes the same 10.2mm shim fits both KTM EXCR 08 on and Husaberg 09 on also KTM 690,950 and 990, RFS KTM was (tappets) not made after 2007 only for Polaris Outlaw Quads and Beta enduro. EXCR 2008 onwards or XCW in the US.
KTM sxf are a smaller shim.
