Value Train Adjustment

I am aware of the value train failures that the 01-03 bergs are prone to, but I have yet to experience one myself. Anyways... I put my 01 FX650 together after being apart for almost 10 months and adjusted the valves. After one sixth gear trip around the neighborhood the valves self- adjusted to full loose. I re-adjusted them again and then went riding on saturday. Once again after an hour of desert riding, the valves self adjusted to full loose. Has anyone experienced this before or have an idea what is causing it? I Suspect that it might be a set of worn out rockers because the bike has well over 150 hours on it. Any insight would be greatly appreciated.

What do you call "Full loose"?
When you chew out a rocker tip bearing, there is no doubt as to what is occuring.
I've found on 4 seperate experiences on mine , and friends bikes its always the intake ones that go first.

are you adjusting them on the wrong stroke?

the engine can be turned on the kick start and you should watch the inlets go down and then as they come up your engine will be very near TDC on the compression stroke.

get it to exactly TDC. now do your tappets!

Well, if you havnt replaced the rockers and or cam bearings, now is the time to do so. Another reason for replacing the rockers is that the adjuster threads may be stretched.

Is this Brad or Neil??

I have a new set of updated rockers if you are interested. PM me your phone number if your interested.
