used frame in the UK

if you sell a frame in the uk that is anything but brand stinking new, it means that the bike must must have a "Q" plate. a shyte end i think you'll agree. so when you think of breaking a bike just remember that your frame is worth zilxh!

yep i have had an '04 frame for over two seasons and i no longer have it road taxed or insured thus i no longer test much. i've got to go Q plate or back to the standard frame.

You're just talking about Fc frames here though, aren't you? An FE frame that has been registered is fine - or, you can take it to your local VOSA test station with any frame, get it tested and then get it registered with a proper registration plate. Or, you can change the frame number on your existing bike and the dvla may ask you to take it to a VOSA station for inspection. It can be done......

if the frame is used you must change the registration to a Q plate. used is the important word here. it's to stop dealing in stolen goods and yes i did get a proper receipt etc from DCR. no go.

the standard bike can be registered after it was bought new by getting permission from VOSA. if you describe the bikes make and model it comes under competiition machinery and has over 300mm ground clearance. no need to take it to a VOSA centre.

change the frame number? sheesh! that's worse than using a used frame heaven forbid!

I think that's poppycock - who told you that? If you have a frame and you purchase it with the log book without certain insurance classifications, there's no problem whatsoever. If you buy a used frame without a logbook or an unregistered one and then put it into a bike, providing you can identify, via a certificate of manufacture from the manufacturer (not a purchase receipt) the year of manufacture, you can get a proper registration. If you can't provide a certificate of manufacture THEN you have the problem and you may need either a single vehicle approval or q plate. If you need a certificate of manufacture and you can't get one from the manufacturer, you go to classic services to get one. Then get an MOT, insure the bike on the frame number send a cheque to the dvla as an enduro bike and bob's yer uncle..... :roll:

the frame is from a later model and they knew that. i said that it was an improvement over mine unaware of any of the rules. despite a letter from DCR they are absolutely adament that any used frame must make the bike a Q plate. i have the paperwork and it's unwquivocal. they amke it clear that used means Q plate.

it was an MOT last xmas year and that flagged it up. i said that i had done an MOT in order to present the bike to DVLA as roadworthy. it was then insured with its original plate but new chassis number. i never ran it on the road legally.

yet again you have gone to war over something simon. its really tiring....

If someone posts rubbish that isn't true and that other people are likely to rely on, you're going to challenge it, aren't you? Yes, any reasonable person is.

What you need is a certificate of manufacture for the frame number you are trying to use FFS! They won't accept a letter from the fookin' importer, only a certificate from the manufacturer. If you haven't got one, you can get one for 25 quid from a company called classic services who the DVLA recognise. Then you can register it with an age related plate.

I'm trying to fookin' help you out fer chrissakes! :wink:
