USED FE 600 ´2000 model

Hi,

I wasn´t really successful using the Forum search. I bought a used FE600 ´00 model. The nice one with the old engine and the new frame. Except for a normal service (Oil, Filters, valve clearance, carb clean, new fuel, maybe fork oil) what would you suggest me to check or overhaul over the winter? The bike has unknown hours. The seller claimed it to have around 8000km. I don´t hear any threatening engine noise and starting is also quite fine. I didn´t have experience before and with 1-3 kicks it runs, remembering the fuel is two years old!!! He hardly rode the bike for the last 4 years. It was only ridden to TÜV and back.

Are there any recommendations how do I extend the life-time of the engine? I would always let in run in idle for 1-2 minutes while sometimes reving it up to supply oil to the valves. Then ride calm (low throttle but also high revs) until at least 60 degC.

just regular oil changes. two rides maximum to an oil change.

valve clearances
if you ride like an old lady, you can do them every3-5 rides. if you race it = every two rides.

just get used to it, look around it. the old hoses seem to swell up very badly. the later hoses can be used and cut up a little to work.

Hey Taffy,

thanks a lot for your reply. I just searched your web page and found some very interesting things! I think I´ll place an order soon. My Inlet Rubber will cause problems soon. I fixed it with silicone which looks awfully.
One more question, I need new tires soon. I´m very interested in the Goldspeed Precut street legal tyres. I think medium is the correct compount for street use? Which size would you suggest my rear rim is 17x4.25". I guess 140 oder 150 is correct. I tend to the 140 tire. What do you think about it.
