The EU is street legal model, so it require FIM (DOT) tires. The common size for those tire is 140.
But unless you race FIM event (WEC OR ISDE) you better with the other 110 non DOT.

I wanted to be dot legal and noticed that some of the better "dual sport " tires were only avail. in the 140 size but it is so much wider than the 110 that I am not sure if it worth the trade off for tight woods type riding. The 110 is avail in a dot, just not as many choices.Any first hand experiences or suggestions?????????

Forget the numbers. Actual width is different story.

I just went down to my garage and did some measurements for you:

Metzler Six days extreme 140/80-18
Actual width 132mm

Maxiss Maxcross IT 120/100-18
Actual width 130mm

The way they measure the DOT and non-DOT tires is different. It's like the way Michelin measures their S-12 tires. Their S-12 140 is like a 110 non-DOT from another maker.

Michelin measurement clarification:

An S12 in a 140 size is the same as a 120/100.

An S12 in a 130 size would be the equivalent of a 110.

Any opinions on the best DOT off road tires? I am looking at the new Kenda's or the D606's or the Metz 6day's or????? 99% off road, DOT for connecting the trails and the occasional beer ah grocery run.250 miles on the stockers and looks like maybe 1-2 more ride and that's it.

I liked the metz 6 days a lot and I'd run them again if they were sold here. Trying a Bridgestone 100/100 ED12, it hooks up fairly well.
