urgent help!! fe450e 2004 or 2005

I'm about to buy a fe450e, and I have two options. 2004 and 2005 both are 200miles.. 2005 is just 400 bucks more.. so the question is :

Is there a difference between them worth paying 400 more... warranty is out of question for both.

And the most important--- is this bike reliable

Urgent answers will be appreciated because I have to decide in less than 24 hours to choose one of them OR up to your answers I'll change my mind and look for another brand. In fact what I need is a problem free fun bike / just changing the oil , filter and cleaning the air filter should be enough..

I would take the 2005 simply for the depreciation factor alone both bikes being equal.
I personnally have not heard any problems with the 04 or 05 450's.

In light of this statement, I would suggest a two stroke. I don't think you'll be happy with any four stroke you buy, seeing as how you didn't even mention valve adjustments in your preferred maintenance regiment.

Too many people have gotten into 4 strokes thinking that they will just start it up on Friday and put it away on Sunday for the duration of their ownership. 4 stroke bikes in general, and Husabergs in particular require a certain amount of maintenance to keep them running. Husabergs, being a race bike require much more than you seem willing to do.

You can't own a bike this wickedly fast without some trade-offs, those being a certain amount of dedication towards keeping it maintained.

I'm not trying to disuade you, and you're always welcome at the site, but you seem to want a bike that you don't have to work on, in which case, I would suggest a smoker.

Well put Json. I guess I forgot to mention the part about thorough maintenance regiment as well as alot of TLC.
Perhaps an XR400 would be closer to the bill. As far as 2 strokes go, I find them fairly maintenance intensive as well :wink:

mdogruc, schwim`s points are spot on. but if you are willing to do a valve adjustment and give your HUSA a little more care than oil/air-filter changes you will be rewarded with the outstanding performance HUSABERG owners enjoy. if your deals expire in 24 hours and you don`t get a HUSABERG i have a 2004 fe450e w/ 1200 miles (4 oil&filter changes and 2 valve adjustments) that i will part with. yes i will purchase a new 2006 HUSABERG. PM me and i can send pictures.

I don't want to turn this into a 2T vs 4T argument, or put 'bergs down, but i have found excellent reliability and low maintenance in my KTM300EXC. i just put new rings in at 100hrs, and the rings were not overly worn!!! i have done basically no other engine maintenance, just oil changes every 10-15 hours.

smaller capacity 2 strokes do require more maintenance and this should be considered before purchasing as well.

also keep in mind that maintenance on a Husaberg is minimised if the rider does not ride high in the rev range. the newer machines 2004 onwards seem to offer reasonable reliability, definitely more so than 2004 Hondas!!!

also if you are type who rides A LOT and does some commuting, and XR650 or similar may suit your needs better.

like Schwimm says, if you want the performance, you do have to maintain the bike very well.

i almost forgot.......DON'T RUSH INTO BUYING A BERG IF YOU ARE NOT FAMILAR WITH THEIR RESALE VALUE!!!!!!!

if someone is putting pressure on you to buy within 24 hours, i would be very suspect.

take note of the how much second hand 'bergs are worth....the resale is terrible!!!!!

also note that 'bergs for sale with KTM values listed, sit for long periods.....they don't actually sell for what they are advertised for!!

just a warning as you may get a shock if you pay a high price now and try to sell in 6 months time.

Why don't you take a little time and read some of the posts here and get familiar with Husabergs.

I have an 05 450 and have had no problems at all.

the later year is worth the extra money. husaberg made many suttle changes although in answer to your question - both are reliable.

I think I have to make my self more clear. First of all I am writing you from Turkey.

I dont care about the second hand resale value, what I want is a bike which'll stay with me operating properly for a long time because up to what I read from the posts this is sort of an ultimate machine that I wont need to look for another one.

I dont like 2 strokes myself, my former bike was a 2003 yz250 it was soo strong but I need more comfort and I'd like to be able to get fuel directly from the station without premix

. I also have a DR650 and I now how to live with a four stroke.

I'm not a racer but I ride alot offroad, trail riding for 4-5 hours each time and I have to go on the road for 80 miles to reach the trail.

24 hours is my limit to decide, not being pushed by the seller.

What I exactly want to learn is are there major or tiny problems reported about the 2004 and 2005 FE450e .. so I can understand the difference of them comparing to the former years.. also I can adjust the valves if I have to

. But dont want to tear the engine at least 7500 miles..

if you hit the hyperlink at the bottom of this message for the "owners doc" and then download it, it is full of useful tips which includes the changes between the '04 and the '05.

the improvements are also on the www.husaberg.se site. some early 'o4s had trouble here in the UK with boiling up. it turned out to be the ignition unit and was soon cured. the UK had the first batch of bikes.
