:( So I've been a member here for a while but have yet to make a post. Here's my issue I bough a brand new 2010 fe450 from day one it has coughed and sputtered vie have had it remapped new fmf slip on exhaust (can only) wrapped the exhaust piping in header tape put heat reflective tape on the fuel tank changed the spark plug cap adjusted the idle about 20 different times still no luck. The bike still wants to chug and cough and sputter at lower rpms off and on the throttle

The last couple of rides the bike has actualy left me stranded due to the awesome fuel pump that decided to get heat stroke. The pump was replaced buy the dealer under warranty yesterday was the first chance I got to ride since I replaced the fuel pump I thought it was all good but nope still coughs and sputters. Wide open in the upper mid to top end it will screen but off idle to mid range off and on hahahah total poop. any ideahs? Maybe I'm missing somthing :cuss: I bought something new to avoid issues like this everywhere I read all the reviews had nothing but good things to say about these bikes and I get the lemon go figure any input will be appreciated thanks for your time

Spark plug?? We have seen a few with cracked insulators. What does your dealer have to say about the problem?

I have replaced the spark plug funny you say that though cause the first time I tried to replace it the brand new plg I got broke when I was installing it that sucked. But yes have tried a spark plug I think I remember reading about bad gron due to a painted frame? Cant remember where the ground was though :?:

As far as my dealer goes the first time I dropped off the bike for the issue i had changed the exhaust they said it ran bad cause I modified it and needed the competition map which they charged me to put in but still no luck second time I broughtght it back left it there 3 weeks to get it to replacate the fuel pump issue and they did. The fuel pump was replaced under warranty they did put engine ice in the bike with out asking me said it should keep it cooler and that they charged me for the bike sat for a while due to work and I go to ride it yesterday and still runs like crap it's a 3 hour drive to the dealer and I'm not getting anywhere needless to sa I'm not too happy

You are not on a lemon. Get that thought out of your head :D

Like Berger says, Spark Plug?
Not too much oil in the air filter?
Check Battery Terminals are tight. That seems to happen a bit on here.
Check for white foriegn stuff in the tank. That has happened on a few new ones. Clogs the Fuel filter/pump.
Check you have the correct amount of oil in the engine. Make sure there is not too much in there.
Is the EFI Light flashing any codes?
What else have you checked?
Check the Throttle Position Sensor (TPS) on the Throttle Body is not loose or cracked.
Is the Fuel old?
You may have a clogged Fuel Injector. If you eventually find it is that run a ProFill Fuel Filter
Does it do the same thing on all 3 map settings of the map Switch?
The delaer could have kinked the Fuel line when they installed the new Fuel Pump too.

Take it back to the dealer they should fix it.

I want the two filters that are on the ProFill website. But the shop is closed. Does anyone know where to get similar filters that are very good??

new fuel
Spark plug is new
Battery checked before every ride
Tank has been checked several times fuel pump has been replaced
No efi light
I've have tried more and less filter oil still no difference
I do not have a map switch

How can I check the fuel injector?
And how can. Check the tps?
problem with the dealer is it is so far away I work a lot and am not home much going to the dealer takes a day just going there and back and im not getting that warm fuzzy feeling there any more I am located in Houston tx

You would need to get the dealer to check the Fuel Injector or take it to an EFI Shop that can ultrasonically clean it and flow test it.
The Dealer needs to test the TPS. He can tell it is reading the correct voltage on the wiper wire at closed throttle and open throttle via his computer that he hooks up. I think it works this way, The Khein EFI system learns 0% on the Throttle body, it is manually set by moving the TPS sensor and looking for 0.6Volts between ECU Signal Ground (Black Wire) and the TPS Wiper (Yellow Wire).
TPS is the main thing the EFI reads to work out how much fuel to squirt in the engine. TPS and RPM are the main two things it reads actually.
You will get there just need the correct person looking at the bike. Hopefully one of the US guys on here will chime in and suggest a good dealer or some other helpful advise.

Speaking of spark plugs. I recently adjusted my valves and when I went to remove the spark
plug the wire separated from the plug housing. It may have already been compromised
from removing it incorrectly before. The 3 wires that go into the housing felt like they were
barely holding on.
So I soldered them back on and I'm good to go. Went for a ride and no worries.
Lesson learned. Pull from the plug housing only when removing from the plug.

Can't you just measure the voltage across the tps using a meter? I have an ultrasonic cleaner at work maybe I'll try that if I buy the user setting tool won't I also be able to look at these values?

Never tried it but I guess you can. It's probably something other than the TPS faulty. There are so many variables it is better the Dealer has a look.

Yep good idea. Might pay to get the Injector flow tested and the spray pattern checked while you have it out.

Dunno I don't have the User Setting Tool. For the money it cost you would want it to show the throttle position from 0% to 100%

My issue is it's a 6 hour round trip to the dealer I have been there 3 times for this issue no luck they seam pretty clueless I'm done wasting my time there nice guys but y keep taking this thing back again and again with no luck? I need to go through everything again and fix it my self what a pain good thing I bought something new.

My money is on a clogged fuel injector.

Over on the KTM board Husaberg forum, I learned that an inline canister fuel filter for a Can Am FI equipped quad does a much better job of stopping tiny stuff from clogging the injector than the stock filter. The filter costs $12. Mine is on order...

To add to my earlier reply. There's really no need to solder the wire back on the spark plug cap.
I originally thought it was crimped on but the cap is screw on type.
