Two separate electrical problems.

Hey guys I have 2 70° 570s. I recently brought them back from Baja and completely rebuilt them. I didn’t do much motor work except the shims however I took the motors out and cleaned a lot of the electrical connectors and the fuel injectors. I change the start and kill switches to a combined switch from sicass. At the same time I also rebuilt a 450 I have and did the same thing to that bike. It seems to turn over fine.

I recently put it all back together and neither bike will start. One bike turns over but the fuel pump gets no power (edit: it does now seem to get power and the connector tested out to the the same voltage as the 450). However, that bike wont start, so i am investigating the spark plug.

On the 2nd bike, I did test that there is 12 V coming from the relay into the starter so I think might have a bad starter. However neither the fuel pump nor do you feel injector light will turn on when I hit the starter button. So I’m wondering if it’s something in the wiring loom or in the interface between the relay and the wiring loom leading to those connectors. the only thing i can see that i did differently is put dialectic grease on all the connectors.

Any ideas would be helpful, I kind of don’t know where to start on the bike thats totally dead.

Have you tried removing the sicass harness, and swapping the OE switches back? At least just for testing. That will at least isolate the problem to the front of the bike.

Also, did the 570 have an ignition switch? You would probably need the jumper connector if deleting the switch. Without that power feed, nothing will energize, even though the engine cranks over.

good idea on the start / kill buttons. i just thought of that on my walk.

none of the bikes were keyed but one may have had an ignition switch. i'll have to investigate the previous switches. they all had different starter and kill switch configurations, some of them attached to blinkers and horns that i had no use for any longer. i just wanted to simplify with one mount.

do you know how i would connect a jumper connector or where i would look to see if one exists? this may be the key to this issue...

Update. The third bike a 450, now starts and works great with the sicass switch. Also, I had installed a LED from acerbis and tried to use a third-party light switch. I think there was too much resistance and the light switch didn’t allow for full power. So I removed it, figured out how to short the circuit at the control panel and get the light to work whenever the bike is running.

So now I have a running bike to reference against the other two. They are nearly identical. So I’m hoping this afternoon I can get at least one of the others up and running. I also have a new starter and a new relay in case the bike that seems completely dead requires both.

I’m so all-in with these damn bikes that it makes me laugh. At least I chose a great platform to work from. Love the bergs.
