tunning suspension for 2001 fx470e

I rode a 2001 fx470e yesterday and the only complaint I had was the suspension was too stiff. The front forks are the 48mm. The rear does not have the high speed and low speed adjustment on it like the 2002.

Is it possible to soften it up a bit for trail riding without buying parts?

I'm 5'8 150 lbs.

Any info would help as suspension has always been an issue with me to get set up right.

thanks

a bloke called husawannabe pulled the middle shim (18mm) out of his shim stack and it made quite a difference.

i don't think we've got it anymore. the site had a crash a year ago and all the old threads were lost.

he also had 2.5w oil and i believe a 125mm air gap although i prefer 150mm.

it is NOT a stiff spring BTW. the spring is for a 14 stone rider or about i think.

regards

Taffy

Taff is spot on on the fork, although I had a pro do the fork and he removed about 4 shims from the midvalve stack.

Have the rear shock serviced, and install a bladder cap to replace the floating nitrogen piston. This will make the rear more compliant.
