8O Is anyone using the 18mm offset triple clamps off a KTM and if so does it make much differance in the tight stuff? also , is there a way to make the gearbox less notchy even if u have to split the motor?

Taffy has experimented with different offsets on a Husaberg. Less offset increases trail. This makes the bike harder to turn in initially, and increases the self-centering effect. It does put more weight on the front end also.

Basically, going from 22mm to 18mm is going to make your front end "heavier" and harder to turn in, but help the front end "stick" a bit better. I wouldn't recommend that set up for tight woods, but some like it.

More open, faster tracks (moto, hare scrambles, etc.) is where less offset may be an advantage.

I run an RTT 18mm damper from a KTM for stability. As John says, it will slow your steering down (which can be a good thing...)

go into the doc and search all these things out. it'll be under 'handling'.

i have the old frame from pre '04. we had the kicked out front end.

all husabergs come with 22mm offset clamps.

i fitted 14mm offset and then raised the forks. so the bike was lower, more stable and turned at low speeds a lot quicker. i never discovered anything worse about it at all.

i have the newer '04 frame ready to test and have a new set of 22s and the 14s to try. would like a set of 17s or 18s to try and will keep an eye out for a set on e-bay when the time comes!

regards

Taffy
