Hi, No, i cant on my 570. The EFI must read the current and it starts priming the pump and does it every few seconds.
Either disconnect the negative or easier still just pull out the FI plug, (the middle white one) before charging and its fine.
People will probably tell you different but i have the proper optimate bike chargerand thats what happens with mine.

RE: Trickle Charge

NKW, sorry but can you be more specific about the FI plug?...do you mean the fuse?, I presume not as you say the middle white one, not with you Im afraid. I put the Optimate flylead on my battery last night and was left scratching my head about 'the big white one' and what you mean. Obivously I have spotted the two main fuses & then the fuse box with the 5 fuses in of which one is for the EFI according to the manual.
Sorry if I am being a bit thick, but this maintenance stuff is all new to me
cheers

Hi Chris,
Thats alrught mate, i know nothing about electrics so we can both blow our new bergs up together
Its the plug in connector on the starter relay just next to the main fuse box, the one you spotted with the main fuse each side, (well one is a spare). Just pull that out and leave all the fuses intact.
I reckon you could also try just taking out the no 1 EFI fuse from the main box but check with someone first on that one.
If in any doubt , disconnect the negative to battery. Cheers

A little off track  but whats the go with the optimum chargers ? When I took my berg into the dealers today they mentioned that these new battery's the come standard need 14.7v to charge the battery properly. Can someone confirm if this is Bull$hit or actually true ? First news of it to me.

battery charger voltage

I would suggest you test the battery charger or any battery charger on a car battery or unhook the battery from the bike and test it before you charge the berg. I do not know charging specs or maximum voltage specs for the new berg but generally speaking 12 volt batteries should be at 12.5 or 12.6 volts at rest. Charging/engine on and running voltage about 14 to 14.5 volts. I have seem battery chargers that will charge a battery above and well above that, in the 15 and 16 volt range. This may be unnacceptable, fry a computer, blow bulbs and cause problems. Someone needs to test the optimum charger and a few others for charging voltage after it has been on a motorcycle battery for an hour or two. Someone who has one of the '09 Bergs (soon to be me) can test the battery voltage at the battery with the engine running and well above idle for comparison.

I hope its BS, have you seen the price of the berg charger part no. 812.29.074.000 ?
Its £81.60 GBP over here in uk !
I have been using my optimate on my berg. I thought all the good bike chargers read the state of the battery and charge accordingly nowadays ?
Anyone know the score on this ? How much is a new battery?
