Hello out there!

I bought a 2.nd hand fe450 who got the trail-tech modification.
What is the recommended size of the headlamp with this system?

I want to be able to use the estart.

Do some of you know where the limit is for not draining the battery.

It depends on what they did. If they floated the ground, and just gave you all DC power, the output is the same as stock. You could run a 55/60w H4 bulb and still have power for your battery.

If they actually rewound your stator, you could safely run an 80w H4 bulb.

You can also gain about 18w by using a LED tail light bulb.

Caution--Using the 55/60w H4 bulb or anything higher will melt the stock plastic headlight lens if you have it on for an extended period. Upgrade to a glass lens like Baja Designs sells.

Thanks John

I have not removed the stator cover yet, so i do not know if they have rewound the stator.

The reflector is already burnt, due to use of 55w light bulb.

I am thinking about buying an after market light with 2 halogen spotlights for use in the Forrest.
Right now i have disconnected the rear light, and will modify the original to led light.
I am working on a circuit that cut of the headlight when the alternator not is charging. The unit will also turn off the speedometer and give an indication of the voltage on the battery.

Will post the result of my project here.

Regards

The Trailtech DC modification is intended more towards those who want to run their HID lights, which require a DC set-up, and don't require a lot of power. It sounds like you are going with an Acerbis headlight, which I think has two 35w halogen lights. It should power that ok. Worst thing that will happen is that your lights won't be at full brightness.

There are some companies here in the US that will rewind your stock stator to produce around 125w of power. Electrex is another company that deals in aftermarket stator assemblies. I believe theirs is rated at over 250w, but I have heard of some reliability and starting issues with those particular stators.

Have you looked into any type of HID set up? Your bike is already set up for it, and it is the way to go if you want the best light available. The initial cost is the downside to HID. Good luck, and let us know how it turns out.
