This is something I have used successfully several times. With all of the tanks being plastic, a small puncture from a tip over while miles away from home can be a real problem. I often ride long distances and come in to fuel stops on almost fumes, so losing even a few ounces of fuel can result in a long walk. That is not a scenario I like, so I looked for a quick trailside fix that would save my fuel and allow me to ride all the way home.
Here is what has worked for me. I went to the lcal hobby store and bought a small tube of the fuel proof glue that they use on model airplanes (basically, it is Crazy Glue). I also bought a small bottle of the instant set spray for the glue. This glue bonds very well to plastic, and with the instant set spray, you simply apply the glue, spray it to set it, wipe it off, and go back to riding. On one repair, I had to use several layers of glue, but it still worked. I used one tank with this type of repair for several years before the repair failed. It was simple to re-glue the repair.
On one of this years rides, I fixed a tank that was leaking when we were over 160 miles from home. We finished another two days of riding with the repair and had no more issue with the leak.
This is quick and easy and I carry it as an emergency supply on all of my long rides. Another plus is that Crazy Glue works like stitches if you cut yourself and need a minor repair in the field too.
