The only way to thrash your Berg offroad in England is to pay to compete or pay to ride a practice track, heres what £29 for a day gets you courtesy of Track & Trail on the south coast.

You have my sympathies. While that looked like fun and certainly scenic farmland, I prefer more technically challenging trails. The cost would be a total turnoff too.

I suppose it's all relative to what riding is available in your area so you make the best of it.

I have to drive 1 1/2 to 3 plus hours one way to get to trails that are a mix of tight single track or double track and those are state forests having no fee. If I can talk anyone else into it I like to go to a MX track but this costs about $20-30 but it's worth the FUN!

Good vid PB, nothing tricky, just a bunch of likeminded blokes, having a good day out on our overcrowded Island. :D

The joys of a small island! I can ride for free on local byways/ancient roads but you have to share these with horse riders/dogs walkers/4x4's and the dreaded ramblers so have to go at a safe pace. Also only get short sections (maybe a few miles) before tarmac sections to link them up.
At least the practise days let you open her up.............the trails you guys have look and sound awesome.

Roll on FR4

Cheers Bill, nice to meet you the other day, now looking to enter the Hare and Hounds on the 20th.

why dont you get up the salisbury plane mate, plenty of places to ride legally without bumping into a bubble hat

Done a bit on the plain in the past but you cant go at race pace safely on public byways or general open ground where someone or thing could be coming the other way. The lanes are ok in the winter when muddy, wet and challenging but not so much fun in the summer and more people around to get in the way.

Also nice to see how fast you are compared to others (in my case slow), just done my first offroad race in over 23 years this sunday, 3 hours on a whooped out 5.5 mile circuit............ absolutely knackered but loved every minute of it :D

Do you have contact details for Track & Trail, maybe a web site address? I'm in Andover and I ride trails between Basingstoke and Four Marks so I must have passed somewhere near the place but I didn't know it existed. Could be worth a day out if I can persuade my riding buddies to part with the cash! As you said plumbob, sadly you can't just tear around the byways at high speed so it would be nice to ride somewhere you don't have to worry about horses, ramblers etc.

Many thanks for that Carl. I had looked at Enduro Kent before and we might make it down there one day but as you say, it's a bit of a trip from here. I didn't know about Track & Trail though and it looks like they do quite a few things not too far from here so it's good info to have. Might even be tempted into a hare & hounds one of these days if I can get a bit more bike-fit first! It does mention the practice days on the site but at a quick glance I can't see any specific dates so I might contact them to ask what's coming up.

Cheers, Pete.

Worth having a look at the Team REME site too Pete as they occasionally do practice days around the Bordon area.

Get up and down Water Lane a few times and you'll soon be race fit though :D

Works the other way for me. :? Still got a slightly tweaked ankle from the last escapade up Water Lane a couple of weeks back! The back end slid round a bit too much when I was changing sides (too much throttle...) and I got close to the side wall and caught my toe on a rock sticking out and twisted the foot back through 90 degrees - ouch! I kept going but the ankle swelled up good and proper so I could hardly do up changes for the rest of the day. All part of the fun, as is seeing what state the step will be in where people have rebuilt bits of it to suit themselves. We find the lane easiest when it's been raining heavily and we think it's just because you can't see all the rocks due to them being submerged under the running water, and what you can't see you don't worry about... Certainly one of the best places in the area to get some good practice in, so long as your eyeballs don't get shaken out.

And yes I should look at the Team REME site, especially being an ex-REME myself (would I get a discount?).
