Tough starting 2001 470 FL

I'm about 6 months new on my 2001 470 FL so I know part of its technique. It has the automatic decompression which I pretty much have down and starting it after I shut it off with the kill switch is no problem.

Getting it started cold is one of the battles I have. It never has fired with the choke out however I pull it out and kick it a few times then release it and kick and kick and kick. Average about 20 kicks to start cold. Any suggestions?

The other starting problem is if I stall the bike on the trail It hardly ever will start right up. I usually have to hold the throttle open push the kick starter through 4 or 5 times then kick as normal. If it doesn't start the first kick after cleaning it out I have to start the process all over again. Thats too much kicking.

I get more wore out kicking the damn bike than I do riding it. But when its running IT'S ON. I love the bike except for this one thing
. Maybe it's me however when I stall it sometimes I'll kick it and it will start for a second and then die. Sometimes it will do that 3 or more times before starting and stay running and thats after cleaning it out 2 to 3 times. I sure wouldn't mind having that magic button alot of the times.

Theres got to be some tricks. I turned the idle up a little and that seemed to make a little difference. Not enough though. Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks, Mark

what jetting do you have , what is the required jetting for your climate and altitude . also service your carb , jets are small and dirt gets in . get a new spark plug and check the leads . a place to start .

You might consider sending the carb out to Lineaweaver to have him massage it a little.
