Has anyone fitted a total loss ignition system to a 650 berg? This is for a road racing application and only 30mins of sparks are needed!
Any info much appreciated,
thanks in advance,
canolman

what age is your berg?

2001-2003 or the later 2004-2008?

I have the parts for either here although it'll have top be in exchange!

She's around 2005, if I went for a standard ignition set up would the smaller moto x ignition be better suited for road racing?

Yes the MX flywheel and stator would have less inertia.

It could only be used to power the cdi, nothing more.

I'm not familiar with that kind of system that you are asking about, but if you don't have a stator you would need to create another that would be powered by a battery. With the extra weight I don't see the big advantage ??
And you always need some kind of flywheel or your engine will get crazy.

Cheers Zaga,
MX seems to be the way to go as I don't need a charging circuit. Will the MX stator plug straight into my CDI?

Hi

I'm not sure, but probably it will. But it's very easy to check with the wiring diagram.
When you get it, if you need any help let me know.

Probably you can also use one system from ktm from about the same years, they are the same, and it's probably easier to find one used.

You might have to do some modifications to the flywheel, because of the position of the strip metal, that will excite the coil of the pickup sensor ??? Never check.

Haven't checked also, but maybe one flywheel from one SX250F would be even lighter. If you go through the ktm parts number and the 250 has a different ref. from the 450, for sure it will be lighter. Just don't know how stupid your engine will be ??
You know engines needs some inertia from the flywheel to work, for sure you will have a lot less low end torque, your engine will just want to work on higher revs.

I will check parts numbers from ktm and if I find something will let you know.

Hi again

I've looked for just one example on 2005:

BERG (FC)
stator - 800 39 004 100
Flywh - 800 39 005 100

KTM 450 SXF
stator - 590 39 004 100
Flywh - 590 39 005 100

Do you get it ? ;)

But for the 250 SX, they are different, but it might also work

KTM 250 SXF
stator - 770 39 004 000
Flywh - 770 39 005 000

It's a question of spending some time looking, and if you have the chance to have the parts in your hand, that would make everything very easy

Cheers
