is there a special torque wrench for doing tappet nuts, so that you can keep the screwdriver in, while fastening the tappet nuts, when setting valve clearance? ot is there another trick to it?

I bought the Motion Pro adjuster, very similiar to the one LeFrog has a link to. After doing it the old fashioned or traditional way for many years, I found the Motion Pro tool to be a god send. It makes it so much easier.

You will probably have to grind down the outer edge of the locking nut wrench so that it will fit onto the right hand exhuast lock nut. It's very easy to do with a regular bench grinder.

As far as the torque wrench, there isn't a whole lot of room in this area to get a torque wrench. I have seen some that would probably work, but, have never bought one. The one I do have is way too big to fit in that space. I would suggest that if you do have a good torque wrench, chock up a nut and bolt set up similar to what the adjuster and it's lock nut have in a vise and then practice tightening the nut with your hand and checking it with the torque wrench. It's not perfect but it will give you a good feel for what you need to do. It doesn't have to be exact. BUT, YOU DO NOT WANT TO OVER TIGHTEN THE LOCK NUT ON THE ADJUSTER. If you do it will distort the threads and wil make future adjustments a real chore, as the adjuster will then move with the nut as you tighten it down. I did this to myself and then ended up having to buy the adjuster/nut set up and then remove the rocker box to replace it. And of course you don't want to under tighten it either and have the nut come off and end up in the motor.

Hope this helps,
