Hi,

I rebuild an FE400E 2002, and I have a question about the value for tightening the nut and the smaller gear.

I unmounted the clutch without TQ wrench, and before read somes post of this forum.

Can you give me a approximative value, I will do somes adjustement to have the correct value. (between 25/30LB)

PS : I have already buy the Taffmeister's starter repair kit, also after have unmount the clutch !

Thanks.

where's froggy when you need him?
what nut are you talking about? what smaller gear?

Hi Yack,

if you look in the Wiki at the top of the page under "engines modifications" details should be under torque limiter or sprague.

The first time, when I dismounted my starter clutch, I didn't take the tightening value, I didn't know.

Now, I try to remount the starter clutch and I don't know at which value to tightening the nut.

I couldn't find it on my manual but I would go for around 15nm with some thread lock.

Then check to see at what torque the clutch is slipping, this needs to be 20-25nm. If it slips earlier it can be shimmed, as described in the Wiki.
