Top end gearing

I was just concidering a bike event that consists of fairly open terrain and requires top end speed,
I have an 04 fe550 ,I run a 16-48 gearing which will give me a top end of approx 155kmh/96mph.I am looking to get approx. 180kmh/110mph. I have a 45 rear that I can try.
I dont know how to calculate a top speed from gearing,is the 45 going to be small enough to get close to the top end I am after or will I still need to go smaller on the rear.
When the bike comes up in rpm , it certianly feels like it can pull more top end.
I am hoping somebody has tried this or can give me some guidance..
Cheers!

Your looking for 14% more speed and a 45 tooth will change your final drive ratio only about 7%. Try a 42or 43, but no guarantees the motor will pull it. Other members that own a 650 may know that.

I presume its Finke we are talking about here??

Gearing

Not the Finke,
Looking at the Gasgoyne, may have to comprimise and aim for 170kmh if the bike may not pull that speed, and will provide ample acceleration out of the turns still. The current gearing is good however running the event once before ran short of top end and there were long straights to make up time.Kept the engine to145-150kmh to keep the rpm down a touch.Stock bike as well.

RE: Gearing

With 16/45 0n 650 we are able to get 108mph top speed. I dont think it can overcome the aero dynamics to go any faster. We ran an 06 and 07 in Vegas to Reno and both bikes ran the same.

Thanks guys,
Sounds like with the 550 I should be happy with 45 rear as 165kmh top end will take some getting there.I also have deep wooped up river sand sections that your lucky to pull 6th ,so 5th will be good for that and can hold 160kmh in open stuff and still keep rpm down a touch.
Next questions going to be , would you change setting on suspention for high speed stuff? I know last time couldnt sit down or move for two days , sore rear end.
At that sort of speed I find I am sitting on the rear guard most of the time, in the bracing position in case you hit anything as you cant pick up detail of the track at speed sometimes.

Is the original posts 96mph/155kmh a GPS or odometer figure ? If odomoter, has it been calibrated to your wheel dia as the 2205 figure may be incorrect depending on tyre choice ?

Not getting picky, just need to know if its a verified top speed as I might have some other helpful info for you

The speed was off the odometer and was on the calibrated 2205.The front tyre was a 80/100 at the time on my 550
So I guess it could be anywhere, which didnt concern me so long as I was getting somewhere the best allround topend .
The top end of another berg that was a 650 though, was touching 176kmh on the odometer. That had a acropovic and a recluse.05
