For those who ride slow technical stuff of sometimes sit in traffic, I highly recomment wrapping your exhaust with a thermal insulating wrap. I wraped mine with a DEI 1" wide wrap and SS ties. Then painted with the silicone spray.
The reason for this started when I shot the engine case and head with my infrared thermometer at areas close to the exhaust while the engine was idling in my shop. The radiant heat transfer was huge! Over 180 degrees C I was reading in most areas. Obviously this heat transfer makes it's way to the cooling system and the radiator has to deal with it. After wrapping, the 180+ areas were now a bit over 100 degrees C.
I wrapped the whole thing all the way back to the silencer to also stop radiant heat from reaching my shock. This also helps things if you have to operate the hot start pull so your hands don't get burnt. You can actually touch the exhaust while it's running with bare hands. Just don't touch for too long, it's still hot, just not as hot.
Another major difference you notice is the amount of heat rising from beneath your legs while moving slowly or stopped. Huge reduction!
I believe this can really help some cooling issues.
