I rode enforcer4's 520 ktm today and I was very
impressed. The suspension soaked up the small
bumps much better than my fx470.What can I do
to improve this?

just about the same machine as mine (FE400e - '02 model) i found the suspension to be a little 'spiky', i pulled the middle compression shim out (the 18mm shim in the forks) and this helped but in the end i took front and rear in to K-tech here in the UK.

they found both sets of bushes shagged and the non-slip material was clogged with swarf. the stop rings were buckled and they even found kinked shims in the stack. the fork seals were changed for better non-leak types, threads cleaned and forks filed to get rid of stone chips. truly a work of art IMHO.

although i said that the sussies were wrong they built them with all new kit and even put the 18mm shim back in, citing the shocking condition as all that needed sorting. i think they copied the '03 KTM settings. they were slightly better.

i sent both back and said what was wrong STILL and always had been. spiky on the front with the comp screws right out and rebound screws being irrelevant. on the back on a rollover hill i would get launched due to a lack of rebound control.

both were sorted on returning them to the shop. the shocks are now awesome, so much so that because both ends are collectively better, i have now taken three clicks off both ends as the whole ship is so stable.

the '03s have 3-bush forks and a larger wheel spindle making the front end far more rigid.

what i'm saying is that your forks will be truly knackered by now and a rebuild with mods is due. i think the sussie boys will simply take the settings from the '04 bikes and copy them unless you have a unique set of changes that you want doing.

i think it's money very well spent. suspensuion is everything.

forks

Another thing you can do is to fit CRF450 dust seals, this info was given to me by a suspension guru. The d/seals are 1mm smaller, and have not had a leak since I replaced them(aprox over a year ago)

Lets see,I have to get Kawasaki fork seals,Honda
dust covers and a rebuild. Will CR250 forks fit this
thing?

doubt it, but they are a much better fork! but the bottom line is, if you have your WP forks set up (revalved) for your riding style, ability and terrain, they will work much better for you than a set of stock forks on anything.

The FX has a stiffer spring than the FE (and KTM exc), that is why your 470 isn't as responsive as the exc suspension. I have had the same observation about the fx wp's, I didn't plan to own it long enough to justify totally setting it up.

for my 14 stones/200lb's i have kept the same springs in my FE so tim presuming your not my weight: your springs will be too heavy. a shop will sort that out though.

We have some oil seals here at work
for a German made gear box with a 48mm
shaft.The company is Bahmuller.What will I call
my bike then?

I'm not sure if it will matter for you? But my fx470's fork were harsh till they were broke in. Now a season later and four clicks less than stoke on damping and stock setting's on rebound my forks are great! Still working on getting the rear end plush enough? I weigh in at 220lbs

I weigh 200 and the bike has about 15 hours on it.
How long does breakin take?Usually 4-5 hours on
a jap bike. The back end is a little firm,I put the sag
at 105 mm,this helped a little.I haven't played with
the damping much,I am waiting to go up north where
it is much rougher,to adjust it.
