To gas or not to gas.

How do I start my 08 450. I had KTM MXC that liked a little gas on electric starting.
My new HSB starter just seems to kick out when doing this.

Yesterday at a race I was the last one leaving the line because the bike wouldn't start.
Now the bike is quiet and I may have thought it started and gave it some gas. Flooding
it. I'm just wondering if giving it gas is a big no no.

Kick starting is out of the question for now. Short inseam and right footed. I love the
bike but being the only HSB there it was a little embarrassing.

your bike has an accellerator pump so giving it gas probably flooded it.
Check tyhe valves are adjusted properly and then check your jetting. Find information for both in "the Doc"

When cold try giving it a few quick blips of the throttle then hit the button by itself. Should fire right up.

Bike starts cold great. A couple of times I accidently hit the button with out even the choke on and
it starts up on me. It has a 45 pilot in it.

Being different than all the other orange lemmings at a race, is a source of pride, not embarrassment. Especially when the reason for being different is that you ride a Husaberg.

RE: Re: To gas or not to gas.

I wasn't embarressed for being on a husaberg I was embarressed because my
race class was long gone. If it was just anotherHonda it wouldn't stand out.
It's a brand new bike for me. Probley should have it all figured out before I race it.
Big deal!! I'm a 32 to year old intermetiate racer.
1st place or last place I could really care less. Well who am I kidding 1st would be nice.

RE: Re: To gas or not to gas.

it sounds like the bike may be a little rich?

trying to follow what you have done to the bike isn't easy. can we start again?

can you tell us the country (this tells us the fuel) and also this was a fully warm engine that refused to start right?

but she's great on choke, right?

essentially, if the bike was warm and it didn't start it's coz it's rich.

never touch the throttle. period.

Yep, cold or hot re-start, 2 - 3 little twists of the throttle, just so you hear the carby go 'clack..clack...clack' as you twist and release, then hit the button. never fails unless the battery does, invariably this will only happen on the side of a steep hill though.

"never touvh the throttle"

as in as you hit the leccy boot.

just to clarify.

Your probably going to want to adjust the pump duration. They seem to have way too much duration from the factory.
There have been a few discusions about this before. It may be in the doc as well.

I have been running Lineaweaver jet kits that completely eliminate the AP. No chance of flooding.
