Timing a 600

Hello
I am not sure if I remember correctly as my bike has been apart for a while so can someone refresh me on the position of the cam when putting on the timing chain? Also if anyone knows the torque value for the head that would be great.

Thanks

go into the doc and look at rebuild. it will give you the torque there and also how to time the cam. it's no different later to your earlier bike so good luck and do ask again if you need owt else lad!

regards

Taffy

not 100% sure the 95 and 98 have the same marks on the flywheel, but my 98 had a triangle mark to indicate where tdc was. it matched a mark on the case around 11 o'clock. you can doublecheck it with the famous "pencil down the plug hole"
as it says in the DOC,
Rotate engine to exactly TDC, and have the cam lobes pointing up at 11 an 1 o' clock - they must look symetrical. Fit the tensioner and release to let the chain tighten. The cam will rotate backwards slightly so check that the lobes are 'balanced' level with top face of head - use a ruler diagonally layed across the lobes. Is it level?
is a good technic. i would scribe a line on the side of the timing gear that was level with the top of the head before i took it apart. made it easier to reference "level"

Thanks Taffy and Ned, that really helps.
On another topic, would you happen to know if the arrow on the piston faces forward or back? From what I remember, it faces forward right?
