Got my fork service kit yesterday, now with the new SKF seals in!!
Good value I thought.
Now, how do I go about polishing the lower tubes? What should or souldn't I use?
Who's done it what did you use/do?
 
Had I couple of rides now with the new fork se up, and I'm well happy.

The SKF seals make a nice difference, so little drag on them, in fact I have dialled in som more pre load to get the feel I like.

I've slowed the rebound down also, which gave me more cofidence.

Worth noting, it's really wet an snotty here at the moment so it will be interesting to se what it's like when the ground firms up and I can hit thing with a bit more speed.

I've also even messing around with my handle bar position and hight, I'm a lanky git, so I have about a 40mm rise on the mounts and a tall seat. Im really comfortable on the bike now. It all make a difference.

Now wondering about a steering damper? Not sure as I like the way it turns in, I may change the fork hight arrondissement before I make a decision.

I have my forks apart and waiting for SKF seals. This never popped into my mind, but got me curious now.

Do the 48mm WP cc forks have some kinda coating on them? #2000 paper is pretty fine and would probably not do any harm, but it's still considered abrasive. Did you put the forks on lathe or something similar and went lightly on it?

I don't have any dings or scratches on them so would it still make somewhat noticeable difference if I gave them a small polish? My suspension guy did not talk about this method. Just told to change oil every 30-50h and play with fork oil level and preload muffins to suit my needs (supermoto).

If I run the forks on lathe should I go 90 degrees with the paper, diagonal (45 degrees) or straight vertical?
 
I'm polishing them tomorrow. put one leg on lathe today and spinned it at 600rpm's.

Looks way too easy to do them that way. Just gotta be careful near the bottom leg area, don't wanna loose a finger...
 
Polished them forks today. :cheers:

Came out reeeeeeeally shiny and smooth. Can't really believe how slick the tubes are now compared to what they were before.

Used #2000 metric wet paper and #2000 imperial 3M wet/dry paper in that order (soap/water mixture for lubrication) and ran the tubes to a point where they looked even polish and next to none shiny wear spots. Then took a used 3M paper, put a small dab of autoglym metal polish on it (I have proper Menzerna solid polish compounds too, but I figured it's not worth to use them) and slightly pressed the paper on the surface while moving around quite fast.

Finally put dab of polish on a cotton rag and gave it final finish.

Took approx 1-1½h per fork to do, so don't be in a hurry. :D
