Time for KTM to share

So KTM bought Husberg to get 4T technology. Now it is time for KTM to share with Husaberg. I would love to have a 'berg powered with this, a lightweight 250 4T (Petteri Silvan's WEC EN1 race bike engine).

Who wants a stinking mini bike anyways?

with the popularity of the 250f lites class i think there crazy not to have a ''mini bike out'' and well they would already have a sale here with me if they did

cheers doug

You hit the nail on the head TM. I had heard that Sweden had the 250 3 or 4 years ago, so is this it?

That motor looks VERY SMALL and compact, WOW 8O 8O 8O

maybe some day

I'm with Berger. Take that pint sized motor, stuff it into a YZ85 frame, safety wire the throttle wide open and give it to your kid

I had also heard rumors of a "new" 250 cc at 'berg a couple of years ago, but then silence came about when KTM released the RFS engines. H'berg made a moderate attempt at the 250 class by putting in a small piston with a short stroke into the existing engine, but that didn't seem like the 'berg way. For all we know, both the motors shown above are of Swedish origin (or refinement). Maybe that will be the sub 230 lb 4T enduro bike that I'm looking for (if it comes sans e-start). In the tight woods, a 250 4T is hard to beat. Personally, I get a kick out of riding with the throttle pinned, but it does suck in the sand.

Brett,
Do you know if that 250 wil be Husaberg's own design, or will it be a KTM clone? I hear that 2007 will also be the year that KTM will bring out the 250 rfs in the exc model.

2007 250

I don't know what the 250 will be like, whether it will be a fresh Berg design, or a KTM redesign. But rest assured that BMG will do everything possible to make it happen. The 250 market is too big to miss.

Cheers,

Hearing an engine scream is music to my ears as well, but my size dictates that I ride something with a larger piston. Some of my most memorable rides were on 125's and had my buddies bowing!!! oh those were the days.

Lettin' it rev also reminds me of a hillclimb lesson that Ken Long taught me. Over rev your 500 so that when you find good traction it doesn't loop you out, which is exactly what happens when you hook up. So low and behold, not only is it music to my ears, there's nothing quite like an open bike over revving!!, but it really works, you can climb some unbelievable hills.

But more on the topic of the 250 4t, perhaps that is what Roland was hinting at last fall when he said look out for something earth shaking in a couple years. He wouldn't elaborate and I couldn't speculate, but maybe........

Wouldn't it be nice....

I am no 4T engine expert, but it looks to me like someone designed it to stay together. Everywhere you look, you see oil orifaces. On the flip side, it seems to have alot of parts, parts cost $$$.
Anyway, Brett, keep us posted as to when H'berg has theirs ready. I'm still waiting for a light weight bike with that smooth 4T power delivery, that stays together. There are quite a few guys around here that loved their crf250, but went broke trying to keep it running ($3K + per year).

The WR 250 seems to work very well. There are many in my club and they have very few problems at all, if any. The DOHC takes care of the high revolutions you must use with this engine, even the wheel bearings works better/longer due to the Yamaha design. The KTM 250 with DOHC could be a good choice as well when it appears.

Mats Nilsson, who won all the main races in Sweden last year, used a WR 250 in the second half of the season. In the race last weekend he won the E1 class, Peter Bergvall finished 3:d, and he won the overall as well. As David Larsson told before, Björne won the E2/E3 class and finished in the second place beaten by Mats. Anders Eriksson and a few of the other top name in Sweden didn’t attend at all.

After the GGN race in Sweden Anders Eriksson has used a 360 and Björne Carlsson has used his 400 engine from 2002 to try to beat Mats but they had no success. Today Mats Nilsson is the fastest rider in Sweden.

I agree, the yamaha yz/wr250 is a very good bike for offroad use. I prefer the lighter weight yz over the wr. Either way, the power is good and the durability is there too.
