ARG I CANT STAND THIS LEFT SIDE KIK. BUT IM INTERESTED TO KNOW IF ITS WORTH OR EVEN POSSIBLE TO INSTALL A ELECTRIC STARTER. I REALIZE IT WOULD NEED A POWER SOURCE AND SUCH BUT JUST WOUNDERIN

Disclasimer........... I was gonna post the following but thought afer a recent post it could go wrong!!

Hitop, have you tried sitting on you bike backwards and kicking it?

Oh well i've said it now. What i meant was, what year and model is your bike that'll help the boys in the know.

Carl.

PS. welcome to the fold

I hated it too at first, and mine required a lot of kicking. Took a while to get used to it but now it's no difference. I usually push the front tire into a curb or something solid to keep the bike from moving and then give it sheet. Once I figured out the fancy choke system and what particular sequence or chants, prayers, blurps on the throttle and vooddoo curse to place on the bike it usually starts fine.
Bob LMAO!!!!

geez, boy, i'll have you know that i could start that bike sitting on the seat using a left leg with 2 ligaments and a hamstring muscle missing! ah, this younger generation :backinmyday:
make sure every kick, the kickstart comes all the way back up and clicks before you kick it. that way the decomp is engaged.
AND QUIT USING ALL CAPS
by the way, welcome to the site :)

I sympathise. When I first got my berg I couldn't start it and boy did that take the shine off a new bike. Now, having learned the drill and with practise and some tuning I can start it good.

My favourite trick is leaning the right bar against a tree or the shed or sumthin and standing on the pegs. You can get a good swing at it then.

The drill is:
TDC on the comp stroke
Tickle the decomp lever while pressing gently on the KS lever to move the piston just past TDC
Release ddecomp lever and return KS lever to top
kick and follow through
If this doen't work after a few trys, use manual decomp and cycle the motor with KS or button to clear out the combustion chamber of excess fuel and start again

unfortunately, loz, he has no manual decomp on this model. but what you're saying works everytime for my 02 650.

thanx

thanx fellaz. i like the welcome... feeling the love and enjoyed the backwards kik suggestion LMAO. so my issue is my left leg just doesnt seem to want to learn to communicate with wat my brain tells it to do and i continue to smash my shin into the bike chassis. o boy u should see the bruises!!!! but i geuss i will just hafta deal thanx again

RE: thanx

BY THE WAY DECOMP LEVER HAS BEEN REMOVED FOR WATEVER REASON IDK BUT THE CABLE ASSY. IS STILL IN TACT AT THE CYLINDER HEAD SO I THINK I CAN JUST GET AHOLD OF A LEVER AND CONNECTION CABLE TO REINSTATE IT POSSIBLY my bad @wurk the computer is always on all caps im not yelling...lol

When my 501 is warm i can start it by hand, right or left with one good push, easy. Just gotta be careful of the knuckles as they swing past the footpeg! Not the 650 though, it needs a leg, but it has a button too.

Steve

If its the 400 mentioned elsewhere, fitting an electric leg will be too difficult, new cases for starters, and then a frame too.

You'll adapt
Steve

o i c so the cable mounted on the cylinder outer wall on the right hand side is automatic through the kik eh... interesting and good to know thanx ned. and steve i sure hope so cuz my leg is tired of throbbng lol

All of the above. See my posts "that old kickstart chestnut". I was so downhearted I even had the ebay ad composed. Finally sorted the stator, now I can put it upside down in a ditch, pull it out ,sit on it , kick kick and off I go.
