This broke my timing chain..Ideas what it is please?

Hi all.

Timing chain snapped in my 650.

No damage to piston or head, Valves and everything ok but when the chain broke it punched a home in the valve cover. This was between the cam chain and gear at the top. No idea what it is.
Any gurus know what it is? Help much appreciated

Does it have a hexagon hole in the head?
If so, it is probably the stoppingbolt.
You still have to search for the nut and washer though!!

is it the 'foot' on the bottom of one of the tappet aduster?

you are lucky you still have an engine to speak of my freind, that could have been bad!!!

The "newer" ones are not a screw,they are pressed in the camchainwheel. I've lost one the exact same way.Camchain snapped but nothing else wrong.

It does not have a hexagon hole in the top but it looks like the auto decomp stop.

I have looked at them before and thought why bother running the stop at all? The lever will stop when it hits the sprocket bolt.
To answer your question, you can red loctite a nut and bolt the hole and make your own stop.
