Thinking about trying a Berg

Hi everyone,

New to this forum but not at all new to dirt bikes. Seems like a nice forum.

I have ridden my whole life and owned many "different" makes of cycles, probably close to 50 now. I'm old enough to be part of one of the first to ride Elsinores and TM's. I have owned a half dozen CR 500's and a couple of WR Yami's. I have a 300 XCW for the woods and was wondering if a FE 570 would be a good choice to set up as a dual sport.

The only thing I have discovered negative so far that actually concerns me is it's small fuel tank. I wonder if they will improve that 2010 ?

I read about the cam chain tensioners but after visiting my dealer who has sold a dozen 09's I am really not concerned.

I would appreciate candid feedback an on both the pro's and con's on the 09's and my desire to utilize one as DS ?

Thanks in advance, Neal

When you say DS, what are we talking here? 90/10, 80/20? I am currently trying to set mine up but it will be no more than 90/10. Yes, the fuel is a major concern.

I think you hit the only real "negative" to the bike and that is relative at 2.25 gal it is smallish but not not as bad as you might think. I would think it seems closer to a 2.5 gal on my 09 400 as far as range is concerned. I'm hoping that some one comes up with a conversion kit for the rear subframe soon as it seems to hold the most promise. Basicly you have a FI KTM so I would not worry about much although my 09 400 had camchain noise that I fixed with the Dirt Tricks tensioner. As much as I love my Husaberg and feel it's the best handling bike out there, if "long range" dual sporting is your thing I would likely choose a KTM 530 EXC and put a aftermarket fuel tank on it.

Probably closer to 60/40 for me.

I have been wondering if I can get by with the small amount of fuel,,,maybe. Not to worried over the chain tensioner. As you mentioned, I have already read about aftermarket fixes. Also a little confused, I have known my dealer for many years and he says the chain has not been an issue on any of the 7 09 Husabergs he has sold. Maybe it just has not been enough time lapse. I think he would be trying to steer me towards a KTMif he felt there was a serious problem.

Thanks for the reply

Maybe a better option would be an 08 with a 4 gallon Clark tank.

I sure don't mean to offend anyone here since I fully understand that carbuerators have been successful for many moons but I have been living the benefits of EFI for 5 years now in another type of off-road toy and I can't imagine ridding enything else. I live at sea level and sometimes ride at 8000+ and have several non-fun memories pertaining to missing jetting calculations.

Since I have no loyalty to be brand specific it makes it easy for me to base decisions on strictly technowledgy and reputation.

Thanks for the input

Buy bikes with your heart, if you want a Berg, like the look of the 2009 then you can't fail.
We all know they are going to be great bikes all the reviews are good and this site will offer help with plenty of issues if they arise. There are people working on aftermarket parts, (see the quality of the carbon parts recently posted) and I'm sure an aftermarket tank fron Australia will not be far away due to the hard work of some of the UHE members.

If you have the money and it sounds like you have a good dealership nearby then you could have that shiny new bike home by the weekend. We can always find excuses in this life not to do things if we look hard enough.

I like the way you think Kieran. I think I am near making a Berg plunge.
