Noticed a bit of smoke out of exhaust today and never noticed it before, do they tend to smoke when warm?

Also, i put a straight through pipe on, but re-packed it. When started noticed some black smoke, then a lot more smoke. Could this just be the packin firin in an a bit of cack out of the can?

But then i noticed somethin quite worrying. The headers began smoking and i noticed oil dripping out of the left hand manifold 8O this was causin the smoke at the front. Is it paggered? Its never done it before. Just wondering if its somet to do with this can

Should be easy enough to swap the old can back on. Almost sounds like a combination of the new packing and maybe the engine oil being overfull.

Yeah, swapping the can is a 5 minute job. Not too concerned about the can now, been thinkin about it and looking at the original can. The originals are virtually straight through and ive read on here about taking the short internal piece out, which makes them straight through anyway.
So all that is good.
Ive been concerned about this oil for a bit. Cant seem to get it right. I was low the other day and thought i didnt put enough in, so i changed oil and put more than usual in. Now im thinkin was the oil leak at the headers there before, and made the oil level low.
Maybe the oil was low, so i put more in, but too much and its peein out. Thing is, its not mega full. When bike is level and plumb it fills the bottom of the window up by just less than a quarter. I wouldnt of thought this was overfillin it? Or is it?
Im gettin paranoid about this ruddy oil
I'll take a bit out an see if it stops comin out.

Ok, ive been having a fettle. Dropped a bit of oil so it just shows in the window when cold.

Put the old can back on, after slightly altering it (just cut 1/8" off the short internal pipe and opened it up a bit)

But the oil prob is still there. When i rev it theres like a little bubble of oil spitting out at the exhaust manifold. Hoped it was coming from the valve inspection cover but its definately coming from the manifold.

Hoped to go for a long ride tomorrow but this oil lark is puttin me off

Easy things first;
Check your carb boot under your air filter. If there's excessive oil, some may be in your carb and just needs to be burned off. Clean the boot, then you could drop the float bowl to get rid of oil in the fuel.

paran-oil-a: an unreasonable fear of having the incorrect oil level.

Easy to get paranoila with these bikes, mine has to be perfectly level. Then there's that post somewhere about a service bulletin that says to put less oil in than the owner's manual says....

Just make sure not to run it too low. Just showing in the window while warm is borderline unhealthy. 1/4 in the window while cold is probably OK.

Yeah, ive got a copy of that amendment from Husaberg.

Problem ive found is because there is so little oil in the sump to begin with, any slight ground unlevelness totally affects the oil level. Ive checked me shed floor an thats level. Plumbed the bike, and worked out it needs a piece of 3"x2" and a floorboard under the sidestand to retain plumbness!

Yeah, i definately think ive got paran-oil-a!! Mainly because i cant afford to repair it if it explodes 8O

Ive had oil come out of the headers and found it came fom the breathers on the cam/rocker arm cover letting the oil get into the airbox and then it run down to the carburettor and get sucked into the engine, if it gets enough oil in the cylinder sometimes it will foul the spark plug but by leaving the choke on longer it will fire and the extra rich fuel will flush the engine and keep running but the excess oil will come out of the join in the header pipe.
I block the rear breather on top of the engine off completely and put a finer foam in the bigger front breather pack it in tight and it stopped the oil sucking up into the airbox.
Wipe out the airbox until its clean and dry and go for a ride then take of the airfilter and look for an oil film inside and you will see it running down to the carburettor if this is your problem.
I had to fix this when i started selling Husabergs because while your racing you dont notice the problem bet when resting between races the oil would run down and build up the carbie boot and when i started the engine it blew smoke everywhere and gassed out the other riders in the pits, it wasnt good advertising for a brand that was struggling for recognition back then.

then a worse problem could be a cracked piston, i had a customer who was riding and the all of a sudden heaps of smoke and oil, the piston had a hairline crack across the top but the engine ran with no noise. I hope thats not your problem.??
