Hey guys,
I think for the site to grow and get better, we need people other than I with an expertise relating to the forum topic that can answer questions and help to solve problems. Although I can keep them running myself, it would be nice to have some guys that can help keep the content relevant and fresh in the forums. Are you up for it? Here's some of the requirements:
1) basic ability to work with the forums system on this site- Can you edit to fix your own broken posts? Although not completely unnatural, you'd be gaining a bunch of forum controls that may not be the easiest to master.
2) You have to show up here often- I need people who visit most days. If you're not here, you can't help out the posters.
3) Good grasp of the english language- Although I don't need scholars, the forums system is written in english, so you've got to be able to both understand the system and get your point across coherently to the users.
4) Good will towards all people- You're going to meet a lot of people that you don't agree with. Once you're a moderator, while you're still allowed to state your opinion, you're job is NOT to delete posts that you feel are against your beliefs. Rarely there comes a time where the post is of no value to the community, in which case you lock it. I've only had to delete 3 posts since the inception of the site, and all 3 were from the same member. You're expected not to be fair, but more than that.
I'm looking to get about 3 moderators for each category, preferably from different time zones. This way, we have a more even coverage of the forums.
Not only would you edit the posts that have grammatical and code errors, but I would also hope that you'd post topics that help the users, create thought and conversation relevant to the topic, and try to help people with questions. This doesn't mean that you have to know all the answers. Search the forums for that topic you know is there, place them in contact with people that you know can help them, things of that sort. I've spent my whole time here doing this, since I personally can't help them with their bikes.
If you're not sure that you want to do this, please wait until you've decided before you apply. Although I would like anyone to help, let's leave the slots open for people who are sure they can dedicate the time and knowledge to the site.
Don't want to moderate the forums, but want to help in some way? I can also use an admin that would post news to the front page, weblinks to the links section, populate the FAQ, etc. Tell me what you'd like to do, and I'll try my best to help you help me.
If you decide you want to help with the forum, please tell me which category you'd like to moderate.
thanks,
