Me and my mates go a couple of time a year to the Isle of Mann.
We do what's called Enduromann.
As you will probably know, there are loads of legal enduro routes and green lanes and the whole island is a superb terrain for trail riding. We go on an official organised trail and cover 100 miles on the Saturday and again, but a different route on the Sunday. We travel there and back on the Friday and the Monday and the accommodation is B&B, the guide let's us clean our bikes there as well and we are very well looked after.
He is mates with David Knight and therefore can cater for all speeds of rider.

Sounds good eh !

that sounds like my idea of fun! can you give me dates when they usually are?

costs?

the IOM i know well having been there 17 times. i worked it out once that i have spent nearly 9 months there!

i know all the legal and marked trails but i'm sure that for yer maun to make it 100 miles he'll know a few more!

there is a particular bitch on the SW of the island. somewhere down the road from ballacraine to port erin where you used to ride up a gully that was the width of the bars and the height of you on the bike stood up! and another that was near the coast over there near carlton (the old railway line)? it looked like a puddle but would swallow a whole bike!

man i want to go!

Taffy ...
As requested.
The trails start about now, we are usually one of the first of the year and they run normally till April.
Cost is approx £190
The guide is Richard Colquist and his wife Helen sorts out the B&B (You stay with them).
They are B&B the rest of the year and below is one of their B&B links, I can't find their Enduromann site for some reason - we just normally ring them.

If you mention Dave & Ady, Stu & Owen from Hull - they will extend you our courtesy.
give em a ring bud.

PS.We do the first of the runs you mention everytime, but i don't recall the second, near a railway line. And yes, you will know doubt know about the bog. Yes that gets us everytime - we don't use the chicken run.
PPS. The whole trip is organised through 'Travel Services' - the price obviously includes the ferry from Heysham.

ady

i did the week on my own whilst my mate who had at the time become a 'stayover' was at work all day.

the bog? well the only ******* i can recall is a trail inside the circuit that started near a campsite at the back of ballaugh bridge. it gradually got remoter and remoter as it climbed the mountain area.

in the end you have 200 yards to go to the inside of the TT corner called "the black hut" and the only way there is through a bog!

the puddle that's a pond is on the outside of the course i've said ;on the west of the island. between bishops court and the coast somewhere! my map is in the attic!

you will know the disused railway line because it goes around the back of ballaugh, quarry bends, alpine and milntown cottage.

nice one and if i can organise it with a group i will. if you ever get anyopne call off-give me a call!

if ever i organised a force ride in britian THAT is where i'd take them. MGP week would just blow the yanks minds and i think if i took them during the first week in june they'd heammorage!

:D :D :D

Sorry for not adding anything constructive before.

Manuals for outboard motors say that, if a motor gets submerged under salt water, keep it under fresh water until it can be stripped. In the case of your bike it may be worth flooding the frame in fresh water for a while & drying it out before putting anything oily near it- may help get rid of some of the salt & reduce future corrosion inside the frame sections.

The Latest
Yes thanks Brad. As soon as we fished her out the river i stripped her and gave her a good going over ....(sorry it's been a while - i'm still in bad books)... I mean i power washed my bike straight away.

So anyway. She is now running - engine feels good all electrics now working fine. I've done both wheel bearing sets and am replacing the steering head tapered bearings tomorrow (bottom set nightmare to get off !)
I haven't got time to do linkage bearings, as im off away on it on Friday.
It does feel heavy to ride and wobbles at 70 mph, but not bad i suppose considering.
The engine rebuild at DCR seems fine and cost £500 and i've spend another £150 on bits and bobs.
It's been an expensive lesson ...
'now what was it again ?'

unless you've got something into the middle of the frame i'd start looking for another or out the bike to some poor unsuspecting fool!

Hmm Interesting point Taffy
So is all the frame tubular with no drain-off. Does anyone know.

There's rubbers in the swinging arm .. are they for drain off ? (albiet that's separate to the frame)
Surely bikes do get submerged in water for whatever reason, so if they fill, there must be something in the design to allow them to drain. Do we think ?

Regards Ady

PS. Bike stood up to 15 grueling hours over two days in the Isle of Mann - Not bad considering !!

your frame ady, unless treated inside as well as the outside was treated- WILL rot out in time! i would think it's already started!

i'll keep an eye on ebay for you.

if i could get a cheap '04 for me-you can have mine!

regards
