The technical adventures of Dr_C

Apparently even the inlet valves got themselves a decent wack in the CB disaster. Naive to think that at least the cylinder head would have made it. Not so naive having spare valve blanks on the shelf...

Are those 33 and 38mm? Are they ready to go in or need machinng?
The blanks are 34 and 42, so a little machining is required. Of course I have to cut them in length and machine a grove for the clips, with correct radius. I have all necessary tooling for this, by now, so it is no big deal.

Now off to the machinist to get the cover over the CB transmission!

Nah, he's used to it by now. Too modest to admit, but we know it when we see it. Yes this is top notch job. We all want this to work.

Nope. Not me. I really dont want this to work. Couldnt care less for his racing.
Imagine how boring this thread would be if this worked...he would be posting pics of result sheets instead of this mechanical perversions.

Trying is fun. If You went out and beat everyone what fun would that be.... but when you do get it woo hoo now that’s FUN

Thanks guys! You are very kind!

My machinist wizard has worked his magic once again! Cheated a little with a filler cap fitting a BMW S1000RR. So if this goes South, you know what to blame! [emoji6][emoji41]

Seriously, we all want this to work this time. I think it'll be OK. Gears are much stronger and shaft too.

Step 1: Test start - Check!

Step 2: Dyno - Revealed too small piston to cylinder head clearance. These cases were 0,4-0,5mm lower. Now fixed. Back to dyno!

Step 3: Trackday

Step 4: Racing

Wow! Ok so how did the lack of clearance manifest?
When gently applying throttle, coolant escaped through the cap safety valve. I switched off the engine immediately, believing the copper head gasket was blown out of place. Inspection showed a mark on the piston from the cylinder head. Fortunately that was the only consequence! I inspected the whole thing and put it together with 1mm custom made gasket from Cometic. I verified squish with a clay test. CB gear was all good.
