Hi folks,
I'm sure you lot are accustomed to riding out in wet conditions on the road, but not having much experience of riding around on wet surfaces myself, I got caught out yesterday. I sit here off work, single finger typing with a broken collar bone….
The annoying part is that I was only going round to the in-laws (at very legal speeds), for some brekkie, & decided to take the opportunity of using the bike, even though the roads were a bit wet. I normally only venture out on sunny days, which may have played a part. Anyway, approaching a side street turn off I was braking as you do when crack! I was on the road wondering what the hell had happened....??? Turns out I ran across a manhole cover while braking & the front tire tucked in a flash sending me down to grade like a sack of sh!te.... I was winded & felt some pain in the right shoulder, but was too concerned with the bike to give it much thought. Got back on, and tried straightening the handle bar guards "pop", "crunch" "crack" (thought I had dislocated something which had popped back in - sweet I thought!)
x-rayed in the local A & E and collar bone snapped... feeling earlier was the final parting of company of the bone I’m told....ouch & feeling sick!!!
So now in bed with a sling, got to go to fracture clinic Wednesday to see if pins needed, hopefully not....
So guys, please be careful with these covers/white lines etc in the wet, I never really gave them much thought only riding in the dry before, but a bit of damp & they are treacherous!
Over & out for a while
Crispin
