The limits for maintenance schedule?

I bought a 04 FE 650e primarily for dual sporting. I wanted a bike with lots of torque and light weight. Nice suspension and components helped. I am 58 and do not intend to race and I don't push the riding pace hard.

If I am on a week long + ride (like Continental Divide or Trans Am Trail) what is the longest I can push an oil change or a valve adjustment? I would prefer not to do maintenance every day or two and have to carry a handful of filters, etc.

How much neglect can this bike stand? Any feedback appreciated.

Thanks.
John

It depends on how many miles you're riding and how hard you push the bike. If the total miles are easy riding and less than 500 miles (15 hrs) you could get by with no oil changes. If it is longer than that, you could change the oil every 250 - 300 miles without changing the filter. The valves should be fine if they are in proper adjustment when you start.
