Greetings all,
After years and years of hearing about the Husky Memorial, this last Friday my long time friend and riding partner Jeff and I headed out to the Cuddeback Lake area on a mission to finally find the Husky Memorial. You can google it and find out all you want to know about it.
We got the co-ordinates off of the internet and I plugged them into my "vintage" garmin GPS and we were off, literally, by about 2 miles. My gps was a unit from about 96 and I had followed the instructions at the Y2K (remember that stuff?) time and thought it was good to go. Well, either there is something wrong with the unit, or the co-ordinates that we got off the net because it had us pretty far off. However, modern technology being what it is, I got on my cell and called my friend Rich who as at work, and was able to describe to him where we were at and he sent off in the right direction, and we found it. The pictures on the web make it look like it's out in the open, but it's in a bit of a bowl so it's hard to see from far off if you don't have enough elevation.
I hope you enjoy the pictures I put here. Those two orange buckets had water in them, and I think some folks that we passed in a mule were transporting materials over to add another plaque.
Anyone from district 37 will recognize some of the plaques as icons of Southern California Desert Racing, while the rest I'm sure will recognize names like "Bruce O" or Bruce Oglive. Vicki and Fritz will recognize "Downhill" Alexander, and Norm Stuart.
I'm hoping that my friends will put something there for me someday, it's beautiful place with a great view.
