The First Failure

School of hard knocks.

The infamous "Gear Wheel Torque Limiter" (800.40.021.100) was initially a simple one piece gear cluster.

The engine was a 470 with an hour or so of run time.

The fuel delivery was lean, the engine kicked back against the starter motor and the one piece gear cluster exploded. Consequent damage was considerable as the engine did start and run.

Hence, the introduction of the "Torque Limiter".

Sorry, as I do not have any pictures. I merely stumbled across the earlier link while searching for something completely unrelated. :?

Replacement parts were scarce at best. The proud owner was down and out for several months all the while diligently making his payments.

Sincerely,
Dale

PS
If not mistaken I believe "Berger" ultimately ended up owning the bike.

Gotta say I miss Kalitude posting to the site. If I remember correctly, she rode a trick ttr125 while Kevin rode the 470, when it ran. :(

Hope they're still hitting the trails as a happy couple!

heh heh, and kevin rode that 470 right into a big-*** tree at the 49-er qualifier 3-4 years ago. we were on the same minute and he was ahead of me, putting out a cloud of smoke that would make a 2-stroke owner proud when i came upon him in a heap and the bike pretty much upside-down, also in a heap. he was breathing tho, so i kept going.

Indeed! Said 470 would sometimes puff like a loaded freight train and often proved near impossible to start.

Kevin previously owned a very early Husaberg of which he loved. When the new engine design was released Kevin was first in line. Unfortunately for Kevin he unknowingly signed on as an official member of Husaberg R&D. :?

Good people Kevin and Kali. Extremely tolerant to say the least.

Owners of the new and improved Husaberg truly owe Kevin a debt of gratitude as he put up with an awful lot during a very dark period.
Out of his misfortune came many improvements.

Dale
