The damn thing just won't start!

Hi, wondered if anyone could help,

I have an '08 FE550 and it died at my last enduro 10 minutes in and wouldn't restart. (Ran totally fine before.) At first I thought it was just a fuel blockage from dodgy petrol as I found white deposits in the carb from brand new fuel I'd put in. I cleaned the carb out and it all appeared fine. Tried to start it and would turn over but not start. The plug was fine, had plenty of spark.

I then found that it had lost all compression so I took the head off and checked the valves; they were all fine and fully working. The head had been leaking and had some marks on it so I smoothed them off, and the gasket was rough so I replaced it. Since doing that, the bike now has plenty of compression.....

.....But it still won't start. Turns over but just won't fire up. The wierd thing is that it doesn't flood and the plug is bone dry after every attempt. This points towards the fact that no fuel is getting through? Even though when I checked the carb off the bike; the accelerator pump was working.

All I can think of now is could it be the HT lead/CDI/carb problem???

Baffled by this

No they're fine, the springs are ok and checked the valves are going up & down fine when turning it over so I would assume rocker arm is ok.

check where the lead goes into the plug cap, my '06 did similar and it turned out the cable had corroded and was loose,

trimmed it back and refitted and it was fine.
