The 650/550 Husabergs vs 70 Degree Husabergs

Had a hard time titling this topic. Basically, I would like everyone's input on the strengths and weakness of these Husaberg platforms.

I am trying to decide which direction I should go.

I would prefer FS models but I cant expect a FS to simply fall in my lap here in MN.

Also, there is a Fx450 for sale very close to me. Should I consider it a feasible option? Not sure what he had in mind for it. Its got the Rekluse auto clutch on it, Husaberg Radiator fan, and a steering stabilizer.

Look forward to all you're input.

There is a lot already written regarding this topic on the board. kick your shoes off, pour yourself a drink and look around. You're sure to find it.

well it sure as sh++ doesn't need the stabiliser!

the steering is heavy standard on the LDC engines. and I reduced the trail from 18s to 22s with talk that the factory riders were last seen begging for 24s. and they never ran a stabiliser!

what is it with these? only americans seem to run them?

regards

Taffy

04 FE needs a steering stabilizer atleast in winter, it's scary to ride it in the snow with the front washing out now and then.

I can imagine with forks that deflect this is a problem. point made...

the bulk of data on useful comparisons between the 2 comes from husaberg rallye racing aust have a browse through gazzas posts

http://husaberg.org/search.php?searchid=36195

there are some really good bits of info on setup etc for the 570, to be safe they ran 16mm offsets ohlins suspension and steering dampers

as you would expect the older bergs were harder to ride all day but more stable

also perhaps surprising to many is that as far as the safari is concerned the 07 and 08 650 berg engines are far more robust and reliable than the 570 with zero OEM part failures in the 650s, the 570s did headgaskets, big ends and a few other niggling issues with the EFI

Old vs New Bergs

I heard the same thing about the 2009 up Bergs Bushy.
The safari team ran 3 of each and all the 70 degrees dnf'd.
I find it strange as it's a Kato 500 motor bored out 5mm.
The Kato's have a perfect reliability record though, with
none of the issues the Bergs have with the same motor.

At the time I couldn't get my head around the 70 Deg' look. I rode one and was very impressed. I bought an 07 650 instead. 1. because it was a 650. 2 because I really liked the looks of the older model. 3. It had a carburetor. 4. It's easy to work on. 5. Gazza raced them in the Safari and couldn't break them. 6. Having slight Luddite tendencies, newer is not always better.

I felt no need for a steering stabilizer on mine as they are very stable, but I have fitted one just to help against the odd deflection.

Why would you prefer Carb over EFI? Carbs work fine but EFI is so much better...as long as you get a good Fuel pump and filter...

I have the ohlins steering damper on the FE and its sooo much faster :)
Seriously, it came that way when I bought the bike but unconnected, and im yet to find a reason to connect it, but its very much personal prefs no doubt.
