I brought my bike home on Friday. I bolted some goodies on her and did the 15 min idle DaleEO recommended with a fan on her. Set the suspension to the Sport settings. What a high quality built bike. Amazing how far they have come since my last Berg, a 1997 FC 501. Hopefully I can get some sleep tonight!

My buddy TY, picked me up on Saturday morning and off to the track. After the first 15-20 min ride, back to the truck to let her cool down. So even riding very mellow, she has very nice smooth power. I felt a little cramped so I moved the bars as far forward as I could, I think the third position. I added 2 more clicks to the rebound on the shock.

Ty rides a 09 kx250f so it was good to compare this bike to a more traditional bike. Out for the next session. After about 10 min, Ty and I switched bikes. We both feel that this bike handels better than his 09 kx250f. It feels just as small and light as his 250f. He was amazed at how EASY it is to ride and how damn smooth and linear the power is. It turns better and tracks better while holding a tighter line. You can lay this bike over in a turn and accel out and it will not stand up. He has ridden a few current 450's and he feels that the smooth power delivery is better than any bike he has ridden. If you give more gas, Holy S**t 8O ,this bike rips. I haven't even installed the map switch yet. Even the suspension feels better. I am way more impressed with this bike than I had ever expected to be. :D

I was suprised how it feels as light as his bike. Of course not when you load it in the truck. But compared to my 9fiddy super enduro, she is light!!!! Now all the ride reports I have read, they are true. I AM A BERG FAN agian. BERG BABY!: H-berg

I want to thank Mark Donavan from Shoals Outdoor Sports for a great buying experience. I highly recommend them.

Glad to hear that you first ride went well. Nice chatting with you on the phone the other day.

With some more time on the bike you will feel the suspension get smoother, and more torque from the motor.

I am ready to do the first oil change. What oil do you recommend? I remember you said not to put synthetic right away, wait a couple of oil changes and let her break in. She is sweet!

Why not put synthetic in it? The factory endorses Motorex which is synthetic? They also say it comes with Motorex in it? Am I wrong?

Do about 3 hours on the factory break in oil then go straight to full synth.
I use motorex crosspower 10/60 or use any Jaso approved oil that you trust and like.

I thought the owners man. says 1 hour? Am I mistaken? I will read it when I get home.

You are correct, 1 hour on break in oil. I ran a non syn for a few oil changes during the break in, very easy riding then switched to my standard Motul 15W-50.

Yes, my mistake, it should have read up to an hour and get rid of the break in oil for synth then at 3 hours ish, mine was 4.8 hr, do the whole works inc filter, screens, check valves etc. Then race the **** off it ! Have fun

I think it's important to change the oil and clean the bottom filter screen right away.
I couldn't believe the crap that I found on my filter screen after just a 20 mile fire-road ride! 8O

Will try to post a pic later this weekend.

BTW, I am staying with Honda GN4 10W-40 (motorcycle-specific, non-synthetic ) oil for the first couple of oil changes to ensure the rings get seated well.
After a good break-in with a couple of oil changes - I'll change over to Mobil 1 4T 10W-40 (full-synthetic, motorcycle-specific oil.)

Cheers! E-Ticket

I need to get some non synthetic tomorrow and I will install it and my scotts filter tomorrow.

Glad you love your bike 06z! Great ride report. I just learned something new on this thread I have always don the first one around two hours. For sure clean both screens, and don't freak out you will probably see some metal. Thanks again for doing business with us!

Yes, I am. I have been using the Mobil 1 4T 10W-40 in my/wife's sportbikes (well over 100,000 miles) and our dirtbikes (well over 10,000) and have had zero problems and excellent wear. I am sold on the stuff.

As mentioned elsewhere, my experience with M14t is that the roller followers failed and took the cam with them on my 501 after using it exclusively at <> 10,000 km. After new bearings and camshaft and a switch to DELO 400 I have over twice the hours and no signs of a problem at <> 33,000 km. I think that the M14t is perhaps better suited to plain bearings.

I'm sure its a better option but i cant get delo 440 out here Who they a sub division of Castro? Caltex?
