Terrible noise in engine

Hi, wanna share a sad story with you guys...

Last month I put my '05 450 FE on the internet because a lack of time the coming two years. I had a serious buyer on my cellphone, we agreed a time and date. The day before our meeting I started my berg and drove for about 20 minutes to charge the battery. About 200 yards from my house a terrible noise came out of the engine. My first guess, something with the crackshaft bearings. But only 50 hours and 1700 KM!

I build out the engine and gave it to my dealer and asked to fix it. The next day I got a painful phonecall. "The bearings need to be replaced as you guessed" The cause was not wearage but the need for a crankshaft replacement! The nut of the primary gear came off. This caused wearage at the crankshaft and primary gear itself. Think I was lucky that I noticed it right away, otherwise a lot more could be damaged.

The dealer put in a new crankshaft, primary gear and bearings, checked the engine and within two days I got it back. My bike is sold last weekend for a good price, quit happy with it.

I am not to happy with the quality of this berg. Such things should not happen at 50 hours of driving. I bought this brand new bike 2 years ago just to prevent these things. New should be reliable isn't it?

Anyone had the same problems?

Regards Mark

This was a warranty issue. Some but not all 05's had improper torque on the primary nut. The dealer where you purchased the bike should be able to run the vin # and see if yours was affected. Husaberg.com also has an area to type in your vin # and check for recalls and updates.

Thanks, strange that they didn't came up with this idea themselves..

I don't have a Delivery cert. number: http://husaberg.com/Service-Check.114.0.html

Can anyone check my VIN number for recalls? If this really is a warrantee issue then I will call my dealer.

VIN--> VBKHUAK065M393900

JBS Racing has a cure to keep the nut from loosening on their monster 750cc machines.

I have had a lot of problems with my nuts falling off. We followed the book Loctite everything, even other stronger Loctites, more torque, spring washers everything. In Sidecar they still come loose. In my gallery is pictures of what we now do which is 100% succesful. Basically we grind a flat on the gears, turn 1mm off the nuts (which only takes away the chamfer not any threads) and install a washer and bend up as shown in gallery and as in OEM clutch. Shown in gallery is an early attempt using home made washers we now have them laser'd with tabs etc like the OEM clutch.

thank you guys.

Anyone with access to the husaberg database to check up recalls on my old bike?

Regards,
Mark

From the info I have your VIN # is not on the list referring to tech Bull#0502/40/01
This bullitin was for the replacement of the torque limiter BUT it also included retorqueing the primary drive nut.
We recently had a 05 Fe550e back with well over 200 hrs on the engine. The primary drive nut was loose causing a knock..we HAD done this retorque procedure when the bike was new....for what its worth the crank bearings in this engine were the original and still looked as new!

nsman

is there anyway i can get over this 'lack of certificate' and still put the vin in and get a reply?

i'd like to use this feature to discover any factory changes.

regards

Taffy
