hi all
my name is dan , i`m from romania, from the european capital of culture sibiu and this is my first topic. I bought this summer a husa fe 400 1999 from germany , on ebay, and after brought it to romania an exaut valve broke.i didn`t got the chance to ride it instead i had to replace things: piston with a wosnner one, 4 valves, timing chaing , and rocker arm roler ( this was the reason that one of exauts valve snapt because from it misst all of the roler pins) and more parts but not so important! but i don`t have what to do this is life and i realy whant to finish it and i have some qustions

The intake valves were replaced before with ones allmost the same but the springs staided more compressed with some 1,5 max 2 mm. in this case should i change the springs too. the owner said that the berg had around 1700 km.I can not find valve quids any more yet, they cen be made from a profesiont?
and one of the cam shaft bearing when i had disassembled the engine came out very easily
pls tell me your opinion i`ll keep you in touch!
regards

welcome to UHE mate and i hope we can help you save some money!

"but the springs staided more compressed with some 1,5 max 2 mm."

please try again with this sentance?

you may know that the valves were soft and not great. you can make valves from the later models fit from 2004 onwards next time. they are harder.

the cam bearings and the cam follower bearings need changing every two years to be safe. also the valve springs can break. sorry this is bad news but please wait and someone else will help you!

we have a man: 'sparks', he will rewire your SEM ignition when you have a problem.

valve guides? motoexotica in the USA will help you.

Cleaned up translation;

The intake valves had been previously replaced but they were slightly different in configuration. This resulted in intake valve spring compression of 1.5mm-2.0mm more than stock at full installed extension. Do you recommend replacing these valve springs too?

I would say it probably would be a good idea as the springs have been overly pretensioned for awhile and are prone to breakage, as Taffy stated, at around 200 hours or so.

So what is your your excuse Taff? Are the residents of Ely of the nocturnal variety or are you working some hellish hours these days?

As the exhaust valve springs heat up more than the intake they are prone to lose tension ,collapse and then break. So Dumitru if it were me I would replace all of the valve springs just for good measure if nothing else. Another consideration is to get them while they are still available from husaberg and install them while you have things taken apart.

i`ll replace then the springs, and the cam shaft bearings ,and i`m thinking to disamassemble the gear box too, to change the bearings there. the mechanic that helps me is a friend of mine and this is his first husa, and he is not so expericend. this can be a big problem?
i have downloaded a lot of manuals regarding repairing
in romania is only one husaberg dealer and the parts i had bought are mostly from him but he has problems with finding parts because he said that some are not on the factory stock so please tell me what parts from latter models can fit on my 99 fe 400

and sorry for my bad english
thanks hussabut for translating that sentence
and for taff: i`ll put in it new parts thanks a lot

and a last question: does anybody know how many 99 fe 400 were buit in that year?

Pay close attention to the reed valve that maintains the crankcase oil level and check the clutch plates for signs of wear and warpage. Other than that, the bottom ends are quite reliable on the 99's.

on the parts manual , the is only one valvespring / valve. on my one are 2 springs/ valve.
this is a good thing? the springs are not conical are right and the valve shims are missing!

regards.

dumitru:

If a complete engine gasket kit is purchased it will come with a new reed valve.

i bought allready a gasket kit but it is at the garrage, i will look for it. still don`t know how this reed valve looks but i`ll figure that out

Its below the clutch basket. When the reed valve goes out it will smoke horribly but cause no engine damage.

i hurry a litlle bit to write about this valve , i founded in the repairing manual:D, stupid me, but i have to look for it in that kit ,
10x again..
hope anybody could tell me about the question i asked up!!

i have a few questions about my 97 fe400, could anybody answer.

1.how do i properly check the oil level
2.what is the oil capacity of the motor
3.what is the trq spec for the 4 main head bolts?

thanks

1.) There is a bolt on the left crankcase cover. If you remove it and oil comes out it is supposedly full. I just fill mine up to the threads on the oil cap or just fill it until it overflows. Add oil every few hours or so as some gen 1 motors burn a lot of oil. The biggest risk on these motors is running out of oil on a ride. Any excess oil will just be sent up the breather hose and digested through the carb.

2.) One Litre or 1.05 quarts

3.) 44Nm. Gen 2 motors went to 50Nm so some use the higher spec on the gen 1 motor.
