Technical question about my new 470

Hi there,

I just bought a brand new Husaberg 470 (2002 model) and so far it's great!!

Today my friend was riding it and I was driving behind him. Suddenly blue smoke came from the exhaust of my Husaberg, only for about two seconds and I could smell burned oil. After that no problems what so ever.

The motor has 150 km's (95 miles) and 4,5 hours on it. I am wondering what that could have been and if it might be a technical problem I have to check.

Maybe one of you guys know what it was. Thanx!

Regard,
Jeroen

I would first check for leaks. Is the breather hose still hooked up to the frame{airbox}?Might have just blew enough oil into the frame until it dumped it into the carb.Did you check the oil level afterwards?Personally it might not be anything to worry about but I would check the above to make certain.Hope this helps.

Hi,

I think you shouldn´t worry about that.
Have a look into the frame where the air filter
is installed.
As wildbill said maybe there is a little puddle of oil behind the carb.
Maybe you had got too much oil in your engine, so the oil
is pushed into the frame and the engine draws the oil
through the carb and a little blue cloud came out of your silencer.
I can´t imagine that your piston rings are not ok.
And another tip: Make sure you always ride with an cleaned and reoiled
air filter. The Husaberg can really have an allergic reaction to that.

Hi,

Thanx for the replies. Oil level seems OK and my airfilter is pretty clean.

I have two Berg's a 02 FX470E and a 03 FE400E both bikes seemed like they took forever to seat the rings completely? I follow my son's 400 all the time and it still smell like its burning oil? He only has 150 miles on it. The more we ride the less it smells. Just hang in there. How’s you starter? Mine has never really worked right. Just use your leg on cold starts. Then the E button will work fine. Congrats on your new 470!

Thanx,

My 470 doesn't have an e-start. I have to kick! It doesn't start brilliantly, but I'm getting used to it. Furthermore I'm very very happy with it, it goes like a rocket!

Yes thats right. It is a FC470 2002. It was modified to an FE with lights, speedometer, 18" rearwheel and licenceplate.

Starting a berg 470

Starting a big single is an art that has to be crafted and a tested procedure is to be followed.
For me i give the bike 2 slow kicks to sort out the compression and then one big one, this procedure works most of the time and is the best advice i can give.On the down side the berg is easy to flood,so drain the carb and let the bike sit for a couple of mins and start the procedure from the top again.

Hi Proemer:

I have a 470 also. My drill is, choke on, kick till it starts (do not touch the throttle). Once it starts to idle down turn the choke off and then blip the throttle a bit until it fully warms up. I have found this bike to be a very easy kick starter. I do replace the plug every ride or two and that probably helps a bit.

Hi Husabutt, what do you mean by "the plug"?

Greetz!

I have also found the 470's are very tough on spark plugs! My spark plug looks great color wise. But once it's starts starting harder. It's time for a new plug then it fires right up. My drill for cold starts is to either start it on a bike side or start it while still strapped to the trailer. “My cold start drillâ€Â

Hi Proemer:

A spark plug-English
Vonken stop or de stop van de ontstekingsvonk-Dutch?
Funkenstecker-German
spina di scintilla-Italian
点火プラグ-Japanese

Vonken stop or de stop van de ontstekingsvonk-Dutch?

Haha, good try!!

Spark-plug in Dutch is: Bougie But this does produce a 'vonk' coused by the 'ontsteking'.

Greetz,
