Just found a very nice free online book on welding - "Fundamentals of Professional Welding".

Freely available as a website here: http://www.free-ed.net/free-ed/Resource ... g01_v2.asp

It seems quite good. Based on an US Navy welding manual it seems. Very accessible and practical yet relatively deep (at least from my perspective knowing relatively little). Discusses material properties, theory and practice in heat treatment, joint design, welding procedures of course incl. horizontal / vertical / tilted surfaces, safety, cas cutting / welding / brazing / soldering, and TIG and MIG welding. Very happy to find it.

I'll be making an archived copy, hit me up if it vanishes from the Internet.

Then on Bushmechanic's recommendation I've been reading Tuning for Speed - also free, here: http://tuningforspeed.com/files/Tuning_for_Speed.pdf ... great read!

Got any further tips? Paper books also welcome.

Thanks!!

Indeed speedtalk is pretty great. Still waiting for my account to be approved :/ ... hmm ... now that I think on it, could I ask someone here to PM a speedtalk moderator and ask them to look into approving draugur?

takes a while for them to approve.

whats the story with your username change ?

Anthonberg was funny?

haha, glad you asked - Anthon Berg is a brand of danish marzipan candies, strange stuff ... as a forum name it's a good joke among Scandinavians but it had a different feel outside of Scandinavia, heheh... and then once in a local forum group ride everyone thought my real name was actually Anthon Berg and everyone was super confused and people were politely smirking because poor me had the same name as danish chocolate, a strange sort of pity :D

So now, wherever you go, people will think you are a tourist and overcharge you for everything as they smile politely.

So I've been following this Paul Olesen guy of DIY Moto Fix LLC. He's on a mission to make a name for himself and write and market a book, The Four Stroke Dirt Bike Engine Building Handbook. It's kinda interesting to see him go. All this "modern web marketing" stuff. He's given out quite a bit of advice over on ThumperTalk. The book is now ready. Looking rather good I'd say. Not affiliated but I like the book. Just reading the samples has taught me some pretty useful things!

The link again from last post :) heheh ... ladies and gentlemen, THE FOUR STROKE DIRT BIKE ENGINE BUILDING HANDBOOK: https://www.diymotofix.com/books.html

Attached are a couple of freebie books they give out - THE AT-HOME MECHANIC'S GUIDE TO PRECISION MEASURING and THE FOUR STROKE DIRT BIKE ENGINE BUILDING TOOLS GUIDEBOOK. Both are verrrrrry good. IMO. From my perspective of kinda sorta knowing some stuff but not a lot :)

The DIYMOTOFIX book is out in PDF form. I just bought it and have skimmed a little bit. It seems quite good! Bridges the gap from my limited practical knowledge to the service manuals.
